Job Description

Michaels is the largest arts and crafts retail chain in North America, operating over 1,300 stores across the United States and Canada. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has established itself as the premier destination for all things creative. Offering a wide range of products from arts and crafts supplies to custom framing options through their subsidiary, Artistree, Michaels caters to a diverse customer base that includes hobbyists, artists, families, and educators. The company is recognized for fostering creativity and celebration, providing an inspiring environment where customers can find everything they need to explore their artistic passions.

At Michaels, the mission centers around fueling the joy of creativity and celebration for customers and Team Members alike. Michaels values inclusivity and is committed to providing a positive, supportive workplace where all employees can thrive. They offer comprehensive benefits packages, including health insurance options, paid time off, tuition assistance, and substantial employee discounts. Michaels also emphasizes safety and well-being with policies designed to accommodate Team Members and provide reasonable accommodations when necessary.

The role of Event Coordinator at Michaels, located in Knightdale, NC, is an engaging and dynamic position that focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of in-store events such as children's birthday parties and craft classes. This role is pivotal in creating an enjoyable, stress-free, and memorable experience for guests of all ages while delivering exceptional customer service. Responsibilities include managing multiple events simultaneously, engaging with clients creatively, and ensuring all activities are executed according to the company’s standards. The Event Coordinator will demonstrate craft projects, perform face painting, and coordinate additional party features like goody bags and balloons. Communication with clients and the store team is essential to tailor events to client feedback and ensure customer satisfaction.

Beyond event planning, the Event Coordinator also contributes to the overall customer experience by assisting shoppers with product location and solutions, providing a friendly checkout experience, and promoting store programs like the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards. This role involves hands-on operational tasks including truck unloading, stocking, planogram execution, and maintaining merchandise recovery standards. The position further supports store safety and shrink prevention programs, adheres to company policies and standard operating procedures, and represents the company's values through positive interactions with customers and team members.

Ideal candidates for this role will possess excellent interpersonal skills, creativity, and the ability to manage stress in a busy retail environment. Experience working with children’s events and strong communication abilities—both verbal and written—are essential. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, lifting heavy boxes, and working in various parts of the store including stock rooms and potentially outdoor areas. The position demands flexibility to work nights, weekends, and early mornings as needed.

Michaels offers an inclusive, team-focused atmosphere and encourages people of all backgrounds to apply. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Michaels is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities. Through this role, Team Members become part of a company dedicated to creativity, community, and personal growth, making it a rewarding career choice for those passionate about craft, customer service, and event coordination.
