The role available at Michaels in Suffolk, VA, is a part-time position focused on event coordination and customer service within a retail environment. This position is ideal for energetic, enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about creative projects and enjoy working with people of all ages. As an Event Coordinator, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes. The role requires engaging guests in a fun and creative atmosphere, demonstrating craft project instructions, managing party enhancements like goody bags and balloons, and maintaining a clean and safe event space.

Additionally, you will deliver exceptional customer service by assisting shoppers in finding products, providing fast and friendly checkout experiences, and educating customers about Michaels’ rewards programs and private label credit cards. The position also involves operational tasks such as unloading trucks, stocking merchandise, maintaining store recovery standards, and supporting safety and shrink programs. Strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and a knack for creative problem-solving are essential to success in this role.

Job Duties

  • Plan and coordinate multiple events including children’s birthday parties and craft classes
  • engage with clients of all ages to create a fun and creative environment
  • demonstrate and instruct craft project completion
  • facilitate party add-ons such as goody bags and balloons
  • communicate event details with clients and team members
  • complete administrative tasks including emails and phone calls
  • adjust event plans based on client feedback
  • create backup plans for events
  • ensure client satisfaction
  • maintain cleanliness and safety standards before and after events
  • help customers shop and locate products
  • provide fast and friendly checkout
  • promote rewards programs and credit card enrollments
  • educate customers on Voice of Customer surveys
  • assist with Buy Online Pickup in Store and Ship From Store processes
  • participate in truck unloading and stocking
  • complete merchandise recovery and maintenance
  • perform Store in Stock Optimization and AD set duties
  • support shrink and safety programs
  • adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and company policies
