Job Description

The Michaels Companies, Inc., headquartered in Irving, Texas, is North America's leading specialty retailer of arts, crafts, framing, floral, wall décor, and merchandise for makers and do-it-yourself home decorators. Established in 1973, Michaels has grown to operate over 1,300 stores across 49 U.S. states and Canada, as well as online platforms Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company's core mission is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration by offering a unique shopping experience, combining a broad selection of quality products with a welcoming and inspiring environment for all its customers.

As a part-time team member at Michaels located at ALBQ-Montgomery Plaza, NM, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing customer experiences while supporting store operations. Your primary focus will be planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events — including engaging children's birthday parties — within the store. In this role, you will create a stress-free, fun, and memorable experience for guests, from young children to adults, fostering a creative environment that resonates with the brand’s values.

This role requires excellent customer service skills as you assist customers in finding products, provide solutions, and ensure a fast and friendly checkout process. You will also be involved in operational duties such as unloading merchandise trucks, stocking, maintaining store recovery, and adhering to safety and cleanliness standards. The part-time position supports Michaels' commitment to delivering its Brand Promises and creating an elevated consumer experience in every interaction.

Event coordination duties include managing multiple events simultaneously, ensuring the successful execution of craft projects, face painting, and additional party activities, and handling the logistics of party add-ons like goody bags and balloons. You will serve as the communication bridge between clients and the store team, adapting events based on customer feedback and ensuring overall client satisfaction. Organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to problem-solve under pressure are essential for guaranteeing each event runs smoothly.

In addition to event-related responsibilities, this position embodies a customer-centric approach by educating patrons about Michaels’ loyalty programs and facilitating enrollments. You will also participate in omnichannel retail processes such as Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS), while supporting shrink and safety programs and complying with the company’s standard operating procedures and policies.

Ideal candidates are energetic, enthusiastic, and possess excellent interpersonal abilities, including strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience working with children and managing children’s events is highly preferred, and a solid background in retail and customer service is required. The role demands physical stamina to perform duties such as lifting, bending, and standing for prolonged periods.

Join a company that values team member wellbeing by offering robust benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. Michaels is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. Reasonable accommodations are available to qualified individuals with disabilities to ensure full participation in the hiring process and employment.
