Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a prominent leader and the premier destination for creative arts and celebration supplies in North America. Established in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as online platforms at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company not only serves as a retail haven for arts and crafts enthusiasts but also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels is deeply committed to fostering creativity and providing exceptional customer experiences through quality products and services. The environment at Michaels is inclusive and supportive, aiming to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration for a wide demographic ranging from hobbyists to professional artists.

This role is based in the La Habra, CA store and primarily focuses on event coordination within a retail environment dedicated to arts and crafts. The position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating events such as children's birthday parties and craft classes, ensuring that guests receive a stress-free, fun, and engaging experience that aligns with the company’s Brand Promises. The Event Coordinator acts as a key customer service representative, assisting customers in product shopping, providing solutions, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout service. Operational tasks including truck unloading, merchandise duties, and maintaining store recovery standards are also critical parts of the job. Successful candidates will be responsible for creating an enjoyable and memorable experience for guests of all ages, utilizing strong communication and organizational skills.

The role requires multitasking between event planning, customer interaction, and store operational duties. Event coordination responsibilities involve managing multiple concurrent events, engaging with clients of diverse age groups, demonstrating craft projects, performing party add-ons such as face painting or goody bags, and handling administrative communications with clients and team members. Emphasis is placed on maintaining high standards for cleanliness and safety before, during, and after events.

In addition to event coordination, the role necessitates active involvement in daily store activities including assisting customers, promoting rewards programs, processing purchases, and managing omni-channel retail tasks such as Buy Online Pickup In Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Participation in inventory receiving processes, stock maintenance, and ensuring compliance with company policies and safety standards are essential elements. The role also requires showing respect and positivity in all customer and team interactions, serving as a role model within the store.

Michaels offers a competitive pay range between $17.25 and $20.30 per hour for this position and boasts robust benefits for both full-time and part-time team members. Benefits encompass medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts, among others. Michaels actively supports workplace inclusivity, reasonable accommodations for disabilities, and legal compliance across federal, state, and local regulations.

Joining Michaels means being part of a dynamic company that values creativity, community, and individual contribution within a supportive retail environment. Candidates for this position should be energetic, love interacting with people, especially children, and thrive in a fast-paced retail setting where safety and customer satisfaction are paramount. This opportunity to combine creative event coordination with hands-on retail work makes it an ideal role for individuals passionate about arts, crafts, and delivering exceptional customer experiences.
