Job Description

Michaels is a leading retail company specializing in arts and crafts supplies, serving as a creative hub for customers across North America. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels operates more than 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, along with robust online shopping platforms at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company is renowned for being the best destination for creative enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels, providing a wide range of products including crafting materials, custom framing, and seasonal décor. Michaels is also the parent company of Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further extending its commitment to quality and creativity. As a company, Michaels prides itself on driving joy through creativity and celebration by offering customers not just products but engaging experiences that inspire artistic expression and personal accomplishments.

This particular part-time role at the Chattanooga, TN Michaels store focuses on event coordination and customer service, blending creativity with operational efficiency. The position centers around planning, coordinating, and facilitating various events with an emphasis on kids birthday parties and other craft-related classes or gatherings. The role requires actively engaging customers ranging from young children to seniors, creating a fun and inspiring atmosphere that supports Michaels’ brand promise of delivering creative joy. The event coordinator is directly responsible for designing and leading craft activities, including face painting and project demonstrations, as well as supporting event add-ons like balloons and goody bags. Beyond event management, the role also involves collaborating closely with clients and store team members to ensure seamless communication and event execution. Administrative tasks such as answering emails, making phone calls, and maintaining paperwork are part of the daily workflow, ensuring that events run smoothly and meet customer expectations.

Additionally, this role demands a strong focus on providing stellar customer service throughout the store. Team members assist customers in navigating the store to locate products, promoting the company’s rewards programs and private label credit cards, and educating guests about feedback tools like the Voice of Customer survey. Assisting with omni-channel services such as Buy Online Pickup In Store and Ship From Store adds another layer of operational support. Responsibilities further extend to load management, merchandise stocking, planogram execution, store recovery, and safety compliance, all contributing to a positive shopping environment. The role also includes cross-training in custom framing sales and production, enhancing product knowledge and versatility.

Physical demands include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, and performing physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and reaching. Safety and cleanliness standards must be upheld consistently, both during events and throughout routine store activities. Work schedules may involve evenings, weekends, and early mornings in a public retail environment.

Michaels is deeply committed to inclusion, offering reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities and maintaining a positive, respectful workplace culture that promotes teamwork and personal growth. The company offers a comprehensive benefits package even for part-time employees, including health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts.
