Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading destination for crafting and celebrating across North America, operating over 1,300 stores in the United States and Canada, as well as through their online platforms Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has built a reputation as the best place for all things creative. In addition to retail stores, the company owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels prides itself on fostering creativity, innovation, and community engagement through its products and services, aiming to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration in the lives of its customers.

This role is based in the Shreveport, Louisiana store and focuses primarily on event coordination combined with providing exceptional customer service. The position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of in-store events, including children's birthday parties and craft classes. The goal is to create a stress-free, fun, and engaging environment for guests of all ages, from children to seniors, encouraging participation and creativity. Employees in this role are responsible for demonstrating and instructing craft projects, performing activities such as face painting, and managing event add-ons like goody bags and balloons following company standards. Communication with both clients and store team members is key to ensure successful event execution and customer satisfaction.

In addition to event responsibilities, this role requires active participation in the customer shopping experience, assisting customers with locating products, providing shopping solutions, and ensuring a fast, friendly checkout process. Other operational duties include inventory management activities such as truck unloading, stocking, planogram compliance, merchandise recovery, and maintaining store recovery standards. The role also supports various company programs including safety and shrink reduction, and requires adherence to Standard Operating Procedures and federal, state, and local legal requirements. Employees are expected to embody positive attitudes, treat customers and team members respectfully, and act as role models within the store environment.

Physical demands of the job include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, carrying, and reaching, often handling heavy boxes or using ladders for shelf access. The work environment is primarily a public retail setting with climate-controlled areas and some non-climate-controlled stockrooms, occasional outdoor duties, and exposure to equipment such as glass cutters in the frame shop. Work schedules may include nights, weekends, and early mornings.

Michaels values team member wellbeing and offers comprehensive benefits to both full-time and part-time employees. These benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, employee discounts, and other valuable perks. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer, dedicated to inclusion and providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities. Michaels strives to create a welcoming environment for all team members and customers, supporting creativity and teamwork to achieve collective success.
