This role is based in the Michaels store located in Gulfport, MS, and focuses on planning, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of events, including children’s birthday parties, craft classes, and other creative gatherings. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating stress-free, memorable, and engaging experiences for guests, supporting the company’s brand promise of fostering joy and creativity. This is a customer-facing role that requires both operational support and excellent interpersonal skills.

The Event Coordinator will be responsible for managing multiple events simultaneously, ensuring that all logistical aspects, party add-ons, and customer communications are handled efficiently and professionally. The role involves hands-on interaction with guests ranging from young children to seniors, facilitating craft projects, face painting, and other engaging activities that enhance the celebratory atmosphere. Additionally, the coordinator assists in administrative duties such as email communication, phone calls, and paperwork, while also adapting event plans based on client feedback to ensure satisfaction.

In addition to event planning responsibilities, the role involves delivering outstanding customer service by helping guests shop, locate products, and providing fast and friendly checkout experiences. The coordinator will also support operational tasks such as truck unload, merchandise stocking, planogram compliance, store recovery, and cleanliness standards to maintain an inviting shopping environment. Cross-training in custom framing sales and production is part of the job scope, highlighting the multifaceted nature of the position.

Physical requirements include standing for long periods, lifting and carrying heavy boxes, using ladders, and generally being mobile throughout the store. The work environment is primarily climate-controlled retail space but may include some outdoor duties such as retrieving carts or unloading trucks. The work schedule may include nights, weekends, and early mornings.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in retail or customer service roles
  • experience working with children preferred
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks including lifting and bending
  • ability to manage multiple events simultaneously
  • willingness to work nights, weekends, and early mornings
  • ability to follow company policies and maintain safety and cleanliness standards
  • legal eligibility to work in the United States
