Job Description
Michaels, headquartered in Irving, Texas, is the leading destination for all things creative in North America. Operating over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada as well as online, Michaels offers a diverse selection of arts, crafts, framing, floral, and décor products that inspire customers to unleash their creativity. Founded in 1973, Michaels has grown to become a trusted brand globally recognized for fueling the joy of creativity and celebration. With a strong commitment to customer service, employee wellbeing, and community engagement, Michaels fosters an inclusive environment where innovation and collaboration thrive. The company also owns Artistree, a specialist in custom and specialty framing merchandise, which complements Michaels’ comprehensive product offerings.
The Event Coordinator role at the Michaels store in Allentown-Whitehall, PA, is pivotal in creating memorable, engaging experiences within the store, particularly through organizing and facilitating events such as children's birthday parties and various craft classes. This position is designed to ensure that customers—from children to seniors—enjoy a stress-free, fun, and creative atmosphere when visiting Michaels. The coordinator plans, coordinates, and executes multiple events simultaneously, ensuring smooth delivery and client satisfaction at every turn. Responsibilities include setting up, breaking down, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards before, during, and after events.
In addition to event coordination, the role involves engaging directly with customers by assisting them in shopping, providing product solutions, and facilitating a friendly and fast checkout experience. The coordinator also promotes Michaels’ Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, helping customers with enrollment while encouraging completion of customer feedback surveys. Operational tasks such as truck unloading, merchandise stocking, recovery, and planogram processes are also part of the daily duties to maintain store standards.
The position requires excellent people skills, organizational abilities, and experience working with children and children's events. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, along with listening skills, is essential. Creativity, problem-solving capability, and a positive attitude help the coordinator adapt to client feedback, manage emergency plans, and solve challenges as they arise. Physical requirements include standing for long periods, lifting boxes, and handling store stock using ladders or other equipment.
Michaels values diversity and inclusion, providing reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals to ensure full participation in the job. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to providing benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, and employee discounts for both full-time and part-time team members. This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a team that encourages creativity, community, and continuous growth within a supportive and dynamic retail environment.
