Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has grown to operate over 1,300 stores across 49 states and Canada, as well as an extensive online presence at Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. Michaels is recognized as the ultimate destination for crafters, artists, and creative enthusiasts of all skill levels, offering everything required to make creative projects come to life. Alongside its retail operations, Michaels owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise, underscoring its dedication to providing a comprehensive creative experience.
Michaels is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment for its team members, prioritizing their wellbeing with a variety of benefits including health insurance options (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, employee discounts, and much more. The company’s culture embraces respect, positivity, and teamwork, striving to create a workplace where individuals can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the organization’s vision. Michaels also abides by Equal Employment Opportunity principles and provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals to ensure full inclusion.
The role available at the Anchorage, AK store focuses on event coordination within the retail environment. This position plays a critical role in enhancing the customer experience by planning, coordinating, and facilitating events such as children’s birthday parties and craft classes. The Event Coordinator is responsible for delivering a fun, engaging, and stress-free experience for guests of all ages, spanning young children to seniors, by fostering an environment of creativity and enthusiasm.
In addition to event management, the role involves direct customer interaction, assisting shoppers through product guidance, solutions, and ensuring a fast and friendly checkout experience. The position requires a balance of operational duties such as merchandise stocking, truck unloading, and maintaining store cleanliness, vital to upholding the company’s brand promises and operational standards.
The coordinator will be expected to creatively engage participants during events, demonstrating craft project completions, face painting, and managing party enhancements like goody bags and balloons. Effective communication with clients and store team members is paramount, involving administrative tasks such as responding to inquiries, handling scheduling adjustments based on client feedback, and preparing backup plans to handle unforeseen circumstances.
Success in this role demands strong interpersonal skills, organizational capabilities, and creative problem-solving. Experience working with children and children’s events is essential, along with retail or customer service background to support store operations and customer engagement effectively. The candidate must maintain professionalism in a dynamic retail setting, contributing to safety and shrink control initiatives, and uphold high standards of customer service and store presentation.
Physically, the job involves standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, bending, lifting, reaching, and possibly climbing ladders to access inventory. The work environment blends public retail space with stockroom areas, some climate-controlled and others not, with occasional outdoor tasks related to cart retrieval or truck unloading. Work hours may include nights, weekends, and early mornings.
This is a unique opportunity for individuals passionate about crafts and community engagement to join a respected company, leveraging their creativity and customer service skills in a rewarding retail event coordination role.
