Founded in 1973 and headquartered in Irving, Texas, Michaels has grown to become the ultimate destination for creativity, celebration, and DIY projects. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer of custom and specialty framing merchandise, further strengthening its presence in the creative retail space. Michaels is committed to fueling the joy of creativity and celebration for millions of customers by providing a wide variety of high-quality art supplies, craft materials, framing products, and specialized services in a welcoming environment. Michaels prides itself on its purpose-driven culture that supports creativity and innovation, emphasizing inclusivity and equal opportunity employment.
This job opportunity is for a part-time Store Team Member role based in Anchorage, Alaska, with a primary focus on event coordination, customer service, and store operational duties. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in creating memorable and engaging experiences for guests by planning, coordinating, and facilitating various in-store events including children’s birthday parties and craft classes. This role requires high energy, organization, and excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with guests ranging from ages 4 to 94 and to uphold the company’s standards of customer service. The position involves hands-on event execution such as leading craft project instructions, face painting, and assisting with party add-ons, all while ensuring safety and cleanliness standards are strictly followed.
Alongside managing events, the role demands a strong customer service orientation where the team member assists customers in locating products, educating them on store programs such as the Rewards program and Private Label Credit Cards, and supporting online-to-offline shopping processes like Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPIS) and Ship From Store (SFS). Operational store tasks including truck unloading, stocking, merchandise recovery, and maintaining planogram standards are also part of the responsibilities to ensure the store operates smoothly and meets company brand promises.
The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication skills, be energetic and enthusiastic, and have experience working with children and organizing children’s events. Retail or customer service experience is essential, as well as the ability to handle stress, work cohesively within a team, and maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations. Physical abilities required include standing for extended periods, moving throughout the store, lifting heavy boxes, and safely accessing high shelves. The work environment includes climate-controlled public retail spaces, stockrooms, and occasional outdoor tasks. Shifts may involve nights, weekends, and early mornings.
Michaels offers extensive benefits for part-time team members, including health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, tuition assistance, and generous employee discounts. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values inclusion and provides reasonable accommodations to ensure all qualified individuals can succeed in their roles. This position is not only about retail but also about helping customers create, innovate, and celebrate, making it a rewarding role for anyone passionate about arts and crafts and community engagement.
