Job Requirements

  • must be a certified law enforcement officer and meet all state of South Dakota certification requirements
  • high school diploma or GED
  • two years of experience in law enforcement environment
  • must possess a valid driver’s license
  • must have a safe driving record
  • must pass a physical examination
  • must pass a pre-employment drug test
  • ability to be a credible witness in court

Job Qualifications

  • certified law enforcement officer
  • two years of work experience in a law enforcement environment
  • ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public
  • ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor
  • valid driver’s license with a safe driving record

Job Duties

  • serve warrants and execute civil court orders
  • serve a wide range of legal documents including subpoenas, garnishments, commitments, and protection orders
  • ensure all actions comply with applicable laws and procedures
  • interact professionally and lawfully with individuals during service
  • carry a firearm in accordance with agency policy
  • provide clear and accurate information regarding civil papers and processes to the public and other stakeholders
  • maintain high standard of customer service and professionalism
