Job Description

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office is a dedicated law enforcement agency committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community it serves. Situated in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, this office plays a pivotal role in upholding the law and providing essential services that protect residents and maintain public order. The department is known for its strong connection with the community, fostering trust, safety, and cooperation between law enforcement and citizens. As part of its mission, the Sheriff’s Office continuously seeks qualified and motivated individuals to join its team and contribute to its goal of effective and principled law enforcement.

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office is currently seeking a Part-Time Certified Civil Process Server. This unique role offers a flexible part-time schedule, allowing the selected candidate to work approximately 10 to 20 hours per week, with the ability to set their own hours between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. This flexibility makes it a great opportunity for individuals who are looking for consistent part-time employment while still having control over their time commitments.

As a Part-Time Certified Civil Process Server, the individual will be responsible for serving warrants and executing civil court orders. This involves handling a broad range of legal documents, including court orders, notices, subpoenas, garnishments, property executions, commitments, show-cause orders, and protection orders. The position requires precise adherence to laws and procedures, ensuring that all documents are served in a timely and correct manner. Serving legal papers often involves sensitive or potentially high-risk situations, so professionalism and the ability to maintain composure under pressure are critical. In addition, the server is required to carry a firearm in accordance with agency policy, emphasizing the importance of training and safety in this role.

The Part-Time Certified Civil Process Server also acts as a key liaison between the public, attorneys, businesses, and law enforcement agencies. This requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with a high standard of customer service and professionalism. The ability to provide clear, accurate information regarding civil papers and civil processes reflects the Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to transparency and effective public service.

Overall, this position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the community in a part-time capacity, with a focus on law enforcement and civil process duties. It is ideal for someone with law enforcement certification who values flexibility, responsibility, and the chance to serve the public in a vital legal capacity.
