Currently, Sage Hotel Management is looking to hire a Part-Time Server for the King & Rye Restaurant located in Alexandria, Virginia. This role is a critical part of the restaurant operations, tasked with delivering prompt, courteous, and attentive food service to guests. As a server at King & Rye, the successful candidate will engage directly with customers, taking and serving orders while accommodating special requests to ensure exceptional dining experiences. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.

The Part-Time Server will be responsible for memorizing the menu, daily specials, and recipes to assist customers with informed recommendations. Maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the restaurant, wait station, and kitchen service areas forms a vital part of the job to meet health and safety standards. This role also encompasses handling guest checks, ensuring accurate payment processing and documentation to safeguard both customer and company interests.

Job Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 months experience in a similar food server role
  • Basic knowledge of customer service and restaurant operations
  • Familiarity with cash-handling procedures
  • Proficiency in English communication, both oral and written
  • Visual acuity to read checks and instructions in dimly lit settings
  • Manual dexterity for handling food and beverage trays
  • Physical ability to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Good hearing to communicate effectively in a noisy environment
  • Ability to multitask and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle stressful and emotional customer service situations tactfully

Job Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Previous experience in similar position of 3 months or longer
  • Basic knowledge of customer service principles, the food server function and restaurant and kitchen operations
  • Knowledge of standard cash-handling procedures
  • Fluent in oral and written English
  • Ability to clearly see detailed guest checks, computer print outs, and written instructions
  • Manual coordination to punch buttons, grasp items and carry trays loaded with food and beverages

Job Duties

  • Greets and takes food and drink orders from restaurant customers, serving the orders and accommodating special needs or requests
  • Remains attentive to the customers throughout the entire dining experience, adhering to or exceeding service standards as established by the restaurant at all times
  • Completes all restocking and cleaning duties by performing opening and closing sidework as instructed
  • Memorizes menu items, recipes and daily specials in order to answer questions and make recommendations to customers
  • Maintains cleanliness standards in restaurant, waitstation and kitchen service area to satisfy state and local health board requirements
  • Controls allocated guest checks by following established check-use procedures and documenting all required information accurately
  • Receives proper payment from guests and ensures accuracy of guest check and method of payment
  • Attends all pre-meal and departmental meetings to enhance communications and gain knowledge of products, service and facility
  • Responds to customer inquiries and comments in person and on phone by providing timely and knowledgeable information
  • Presents a clean and professional appearance at all times
  • Maintains a friendly, cheerful and courteous demeanor at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management
