Job Description
Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) is a leading global hospitality company that owns, operates, and franchises more than 7,000 hotels worldwide, offering over a million guest rooms in over 100 countries. With a rich history of delivering exceptional service and creating memorable experiences for guests, IHG is recognized as a preferred, admired, and successful hotel company globally. The company is dedicated to nurturing talent and fostering a collaborative work environment where passion and innovation thrive. IHG’s diverse portfolio of brands provides a wide range of career opportunities, and the company is committed to employee development and growth, making it an attractive employer in the hospitality industry.
The Teen Academy program is a unique summer work and internship initiative launched in 2016 at the IHG Army Hotel in Joint Force Base San Antonio. Due to its success, the program expanded portfolio-wide in 2017. Designed specifically for teenagers aged 14 to 17, the Teen Academy provides valuable skills development and real-world experience in the hotel industry. The program helps participants develop a strong work ethic and an appreciation for hospitality as both a career and a healthy lifestyle choice. It also emphasizes family values by recognizing the hard work of parents and relatives who provide for their families.
The Teen Academy is structured as an 8 to 10 week summer program depending on local school schedules and laws, with core working hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday. The program ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local labor laws, including restrictions on hours worked and overtime. Participating teens engage in various hotel roles such as Room Attendant, Houseperson, Laundry Attendant, and Breakfast Attendant, gaining hands-on experience and exposure to the hospitality industry. This program not only offers competitive hourly pay ranging from $15.00 to $17.99 but also fosters leadership, responsibility, and a sense of community among participants.
Joining the Teen Academy means becoming part of a global network of over 370,000 IHG colleagues. The company encourages applicants to embrace their ambition, innovate, collaborate, and contribute to exceptional guest experiences. IHG values diverse talents and welcomes motivated teens ready to learn and grow within a supportive team environment. Candidates who may not meet every qualification are still encouraged to apply, highlighting the company’s inclusive approach and commitment to discovering potential in every applicant.
This opportunity also provides insights into career pathways in hospitality while supporting teens in building a foundation for their professional futures. IHG’s Teen Academy is an excellent stepping stone for young individuals interested in hospitality careers, offering practical skills and meaningful work experience in a prestigious international hotel group. The program’s emphasis on education, safety, and personal development reflects IHG’s commitment to youth empowerment and workforce readiness.
