Job Description
The Town of Whitby is a dynamic and rapidly growing community located in the heart of Durham Region, within the eastern Greater Toronto Area. As the second-largest municipality in the region, Whitby is a vibrant town known for balancing a small-town atmosphere with the sophisticated amenities of a large urban center. With its population expected to grow from 140,000 to more than 200,000 by 2031, the Town of Whitby is experiencing exciting transformation and development. It boasts beautiful heritage downtowns, an award-winning marina, extensive recreational opportunities, arts and culture events, and a strong commitment to sustainability and community improvement. The Town of Whitby is dedicated to fostering a welcoming environment for its residents and employees alike, creating spaces where people can thrive both personally and professionally.
This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute meaningfully to Whitby’s community services by serving as the first point of contact at the Town’s recreation facilities. As a Receptionist/Cashier, you will play a vital role in delivering friendly, efficient, and professional customer service while supporting the day-to-day operations of the recreation facilities. Reporting to the Supervisor of Recreation Customer Service, this position requires a customer-focused individual with strong communication skills who can engage with visitors in person, by telephone, and through online channels. Your responsibilities will include processing registrations and payments, booking facilities, addressing customer inquiries, and maintaining accurate records. The Town values individuals who exemplify their CARE core values—Collaborative, Accountable, Respectful, and Engaged—and encourages a culture of teamwork, respect, and engagement. The position is part-time with flexible scheduling options including days, evenings, and weekends, accommodating up to 24 hours per week. The Town of Whitby is also embracing hybrid work models, empowering staff to work effectively from various locations as appropriate. This role promises to be both rewarding and impactful as you help make a difference in a growing and diverse community while developing your career in a supportive and inclusive environment. The Town is currently reviewing salary structures, and this position’s pay rate will be finalized following this evaluation process. Overall, this is a unique opportunity to join a thriving municipality that values innovation, inclusion, and excellence in public service.
