Job Description
Cobb County Government is a reputable local government entity dedicated to serving the residents of Cobb County through a variety of public services and programs. Known for its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its citizens, Cobb County provides diverse opportunities for employment across multiple departments. One such department is the Senior Wellness Center and Senior Nutrition Program, where the Part-Time Program Leader position is available. This role is integral in supporting the well-being and active lifestyles of older adults within the community. The County prides itself on fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace environment where employees can contribute meaningfully to public health and community development.
This part-time role involves a work schedule of 29 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with daily hours falling between 8 AM and 5 PM. The exact schedule will be finalized upon job offer, providing some flexibility within typical business hours. The Part-Time Program Leader plays a pivotal role in both planning and executing various programs, services, activities, and events targeted at the senior population. Responsibilities include assisting with community needs assessments, researching and developing content for programs, and coordinating events that promote social interaction, physical fitness, cognitive engagement, and nutrition education.
In this capacity, the Program Leader will interact regularly with participants, community organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure that activities meet the evolving interests and needs of the senior clientele. The role requires organizational skills to manage scheduling, communications, and resource allocation, including gathering supplies and equipment necessary for program delivery. Customer service is a key component, as the Program Leader must provide information, address client inquiries, and assist with program enrollment effectively.
Furthermore, this position demands a blend of creative event planning and hands-on program implementation. The Leader will not only assist in developing new initiatives but also take an active role in leading classes and events that accommodate various fitness and cognitive levels. Outreach efforts include recruiting participants, engaging with community groups and civic organizations, and supporting public relations through the creation and distribution of promotional materials such as flyers, calendars, and brochures.
Clerical duties also form part of the role, encompassing the preparation of reports, maintenance of inventory, and record-keeping tasks like transcribing meeting minutes and updating calendars. Given the emphasis on physical activity, the position requires the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting moderately heavy objects and arranging physical spaces for events. The Part-Time Program Leader must also maintain a valid driver’s license, as some duties may involve transportation-related responsibilities.
This role is ideal for individuals with a high school diploma or GED coupled with two years of experience in program provision, particularly in community, recreation, or senior services environments. The County favors candidates with proficiency in Microsoft Office, a background in customer service, and familiarity with the older adult community. Knowledge of food safety practices, particularly ServSafe certification, is a strong advantage given the nutritional component of the programming.
Cobb County Government is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. They encourage applications from all qualified persons without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, or other legally protected statuses. Joining their team as a Part-Time Program Leader means contributing directly to the enrichment and well-being of seniors in the county while working in a supportive public service environment.
