Job Description

The Michaels Companies Inc. is a leading arts and crafts retail chain headquartered in Irving, Texas. Founded in 1973, Michaels operates over 1,300 stores across 49 states in the U.S. and Canada, as well as online through Michaels.com and Michaels.ca. The company also owns Artistree, a manufacturer specializing in custom and specialty framing merchandise. Michaels is well-known as the best place for all things creative, offering a vast range of products and services designed to inspire creativity and celebration. The company’s mission is to fuel the joy of creativity and celebration by providing customers with a fun, engaging, and supportive shopping experience. Michaels places a strong emphasis on inclusivity and diversity, fostering an environment where individuals can create, innovate, and improve together.

At the heart of Michaels’ success is its commitment to both customer satisfaction and employee wellbeing. The company prioritizes robust benefits packages for its team members and encourages an inclusive workplace. Employees at Michaels, whether full-time or part-time, receive access to health insurance, paid time off, tuition assistance, employee discounts, and much more. The company upholds equal opportunity employment practices and assures reasonable accommodations to ensure every candidate and employee can thrive.

This role is based at the Michaels store located in Hart-Enfield, Connecticut. The position focuses on event coordination and customer experience, tailored specifically to crafting and celebratory events including children's birthday parties. The job offers an hourly pay ranging between $17.25 and $20.30, supporting employees with a competitive and fair compensation structure.

The Event Coordinator at Michaels plays a vital role in creating memorable and enjoyable events within the store. This individual plans, coordinates, and facilitates multiple events concurrently, ensuring parties and craft classes run smoothly and meet the company’s quality standards. A key part of this role involves engaging guests of all ages—from children to seniors—in fun, creative activities that foster a welcoming and vibrant environment. Responsibilities include demonstrating craft projects, face painting, managing party accessories like balloons and goody bags, and handling client communication effectively.

Customer service excellence is central to this role, with responsibilities spanning helping customers find products, providing fast and friendly checkout experiences, supporting a variety of store processes such as truck unloading and merchandise stocking, and promoting customer engagement with store loyalty programs. The role requires adaptability, effective communication, and problem-solving skills to adjust event plans based on feedback and to maintain a clean and safe environment before, during, and after each event.

Physical demands include the ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry heavy boxes, and move around the store comfortably, utilizing ladders and other equipment when necessary. The work environment is primarily a public retail space that is climate controlled but may include outdoor tasks related to store maintenance and inventory management. Shifts may include nights, weekends, and early mornings, reflecting the operational needs of the store.

Overall, this role at Michaels offers an exciting opportunity to blend creativity, customer service, and event management in a dynamic retail environment. It is ideal for individuals who possess excellent interpersonal skills, experience in child-focused events, and a passion for fostering community through creative activities. Michaels supports its team members by encouraging a positive work culture and providing comprehensive benefits designed to enhance their professional and personal lives.
