Job Description
The City of Republic operates the Republic Community Center, serving as a pivotal hub for recreational activities, events, and community engagement. As a municipal government entity, the City prioritizes providing high-quality Parks and Recreation services to its residents, fostering a healthy and active community. The Republic Community Center is a well-used facility that hosts a variety of programs, special events, and facility rentals, tailored to meet the diverse interests and needs of the local population. The Parks and Recreation Department emphasizes professionalism, integrity, and teamwork to deliver outstanding customer service and maintain safe, welcoming environments. This role is part-time, averaging 15-20 hours per week, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends, reflecting the center’s operational hours and event schedules. Supervision is provided directly by the Operations Coordinator and generally overseen by the Recreation Superintendent.
The primary role of the Republic Community Center Monitor and Receptionist is multifaceted, combining front-desk customer service with facility oversight and administrative duties. As the main point of contact for visitors, the Monitor greets guests, answers inquiries about programs and events, and manages registrations and payments. This position requires an individual who can handle a high volume of public interaction with courtesy and efficiency. Beyond reception duties, the Monitor is responsible for regularly patrolling the Community Center and Activities Building, ensuring adherence to facility rules and maintaining a safe environment. This includes spot cleaning when necessary to uphold the center’s standards.
Additional responsibilities encompass preparing community rooms and gymnasiums for rentals, assisting with equipment setup, and reporting maintenance issues promptly. The role demands strong organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication, and the ability to work cooperatively as part of the Parks and Recreation team. Physical demands include the need to move around the facility frequently, lift up to 60 pounds, and work flexible shifts that may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be at least 16 years old, possess a Missouri State Driver’s License, and either hold or be willing to obtain CPR/First Aid certification through the American Red Cross.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, resilience under pressure, sound judgment, and the capacity to make timely decisions in dynamic situations. Exposure to various environmental factors such as dust, chemicals, or mechanical hazards is possible, requiring adherence to safety protocols. The City of Republic is committed to diversity, equal opportunity employment, and maintaining a drug-free workplace with mandatory pre-employment testing. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking part-time work in a community-focused environment with flexible scheduling and the chance to contribute to the wellbeing of local residents.
