Job Description
This job opportunity is offered by a well-established food service organization committed to providing high-quality baked goods with a focus on breads. The company operates within the food services sector, specializing in creating and delivering a varied selection of bakery products. This establishment emphasizes sourcing local and organic ingredients, aligning with their commitment to quality, sustainability, and community support. The company values inclusivity and equal employment opportunity, ensuring non-discriminatory hiring practices across race, color, religion, gender, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
The available role is for a Food Service Baker, a critical position tasked with preparing and delivering a diverse range of baked goods, ensuring both visual appeal and delicious taste. This role is designed for individuals passionate about baking, particularly breads, muffins, bars, cakes, pies, and other desserts, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options tailored to meet dietary preferences. The baker will be responsible for developing and following standard recipes that adhere to the company’s food policy and departmental goals concerning local and organic ingredient sourcing, sales, profit margins, and labor cost management.
This is a part-time morning position with a tentative schedule from 4 am to 12 pm and a starting hourly wage of $18. An additional incentive is provided for hours worked before 6 am, including a $1 per hour differential. The baker reports directly to the Food Service Manager and will work closely with the deli manager to coordinate equipment, supplies, and bakery operations. The role requires keen attention to production standards, inventory management, pricing oversight, waste reduction, and customer service excellence.
Baking responsibilities encompass daily inventory control of bakery ingredients, rigorous monitoring of ingredient pricing and sales margins, adherence to production schedules and recipes, proper food rotation and storage, and maintenance of an attractive display of bakery items. The baker is expected to prepare recipes not only for the current day but also for future baking requirements, ensuring operational continuity, and training or substituting for other bakers when necessary.
Maintenance of the food service area is a key aspect, including thorough cleaning of all baking equipment, work surfaces, ovens, and storage areas to meet Department of Health standards. The baker also ensures a clean, organized workspace by promptly addressing spills, trash, and restocking supplies. Safety, food storage, proper labeling, and timely communication about equipment needs or repairs are vital components of the role.
Customer service excellence is integral, with the baker expected to greet and engage positively with customers, provide assistance beyond basic expectations, and maintain heightened awareness of customer needs throughout the store. General job duties include positive teamwork, thorough knowledge of the bakery menu and recipes, scheduling adaptability, effective communication of production adjustments, supervising and training team members, and participation in departmental meetings. The company encourages a fun and collaborative work environment where employees are motivated to succeed and contribute creatively.
This job is suitable for individuals with at least two years of baking experience or an equivalent combination of culinary education and work experience. Candidates should exhibit strong organizational skills, passion for baking, familiarity with professional kitchen equipment, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Physical requirements include the ability to stand for long periods, operate safely in varying temperature conditions, lift and transport up to 50 pounds regularly, and follow detailed oral and written instructions. Proficiency with basic office software and communication tools is necessary for regular interaction and documentation.
The position offers an excellent opportunity for bakers seeking a dynamic, growth-oriented role within a reputable organization that values quality, sustainability, and customer satisfaction. Candidates interested in contributing to a team-oriented, health-conscious, and customer-focused bakery environment are encouraged to apply.
