Job Description

We are a skilled nursing facility dedicated to providing high-quality care and services to our community's elderly and medically complex residents. Our facility emphasizes a holistic approach to healthcare, which includes not only medical treatment but also proper nutrition and dining experiences that promote health and comfort for our residents. We understand the critical role that food service plays in the wellbeing of our residents, and we are committed to maintaining stringent standards of hygiene, safety, and quality in our dining services.

We are currently seeking a full-time cook to join our dining services team. This role is essential in preparing nutritious and appealing meals according to established menus and safety standards. The pay rate for this position is competitive and varies depending on the candidate's experience. The successful candidate will preferably have experience working in a skilled nursing facility or a similar healthcare environment where specialized diets and food safety are paramount.

The cook will be responsible for preparing all food in a safe and sanitary manner under the direction of the dining services manager. Attention to detail is crucial, as you will need to ensure that food preparation meets standardized recipes, portion sizes, and adheres to strict safety and sanitation guidelines. Timeliness is also important, with meals needing to be prepared and served according to specified meal times to meet the needs of residents and staff.

In addition to food preparation, the cook will be tasked with maintaining proper storage practices by labeling and dating items in refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage areas to prevent contamination and spoilage. The cook will also oversee the proper handling and utilization of all foods to maintain quality, avoid waste, and reduce costs. We encourage innovative suggestions for menu or recipe changes to better use leftovers and supplies, reflecting an efficient and sustainable approach to food service.

Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment is a key part of this position. This includes cleaning all food service equipment, kitchen surfaces, and storage areas regularly to comply with health regulations and facility standards. The cook will also be expected to respond appropriately to any issues or concerns raised by the community in the dining room, ensuring a positive dining experience for all residents.

Our ideal candidate will be someone who takes pride in their work, is knowledgeable about special diets necessary in a skilled nursing setting, and demonstrates a commitment to food safety and quality. This role offers the opportunity to work in a supportive team environment and make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of our residents through nutrition and care.
