Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Minimum 6 months experience in school food service or food service
  • Possess or ability to obtain Food Handler Permit within 5 days of hire
  • Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions in English
  • Ability to use POS systems and basic office tools
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, twist, bend frequently during shift
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds
  • Able to work in environments with exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, extreme temperatures
  • Eligible to work in the United States with work authorization
  • Clear criminal background check

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) preferred
  • May substitute equivalent work experience for diploma preference
  • Experience in school food service or food service minimum of 6 months
  • Possess current Food Handler Permit or ability to obtain within first 5 days of hire
  • Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures
  • Capable of operating small and large kitchen equipment and tools
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, students, and parents
  • Ability to read, analyze, and apply understand and carry out instructions in written or oral English
  • Ability to learn and use software as necessary such as POS and clock in/out
  • Ability to use basic office equipment
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations

Job Duties

  • Prepare quality food according to planned menu and recipes
  • Serve food according to meal schedules and food safety policies and procedures
  • Store and handle food items and supplies according to policies and procedures
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen
  • Operate tools and equipment according to safety standards and follow established policies and procedures
  • Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary
  • Follow all industry standard guidelines for food safety and sanitation
  • Maintain good personal appearance and hygiene according to food safety policies and procedures
  • Always adhere to professional conduct
  • Ensure counting and claiming process are followed according to USDA/TDA guidelines
  • Handle and record cashier functions accurately and timely
  • Responsible for accurately managing point-of-sale (POS) transactions and reporting discrepancies
  • Help record and maintain daily food production worksheet
  • Promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members
  • Provide great customer service
  • Complete annual continuing education and training
  • Attend monthly training
  • Complete assignments in a timely, efficient manner
  • Assist in the daily clean up of the kitchen area and equipment
  • Assist in the major cleaning of refrigerators, freezer, and storage areas at regular scheduled intervals
  • If assigned, carry out other specific kitchen tasks such as dishwasher, cashier, cleaning, and pushing meals to other areas of school
