With a commitment to community, quality, and customer satisfaction, Harris Teeter operates numerous stores that focus on creating a welcoming and efficient shopping experience. Being part of a company that values employee growth and development, Harris Teeter offers a variety of roles that support both the operational and customer service aspects of the business, ensuring smooth daily operations and the delivery of superior service.
This part-time position at Harris Teeter is primarily responsible for preparing, processing, packaging, and stocking products in accordance with the company's established standards, inspired by the Starbucks Standards model. The role is pivotal in maintaining the overall presentation and availability of products, ensuring customers consistently find fresh, well-prepared items in-store. Alongside product handling, this role requires providing excellent customer service, contributing to a positive shopping environment. Employees in this position are also tasked with cleaning work areas, unloading stock deliveries, and reloading salvage products to minimize waste and maintain inventory accuracy.
Success in this job demands the ability to perform essential duties with attention to detail, adherence to safety and sanitary protocols, and a willingness to engage in thorough training programs. Training includes orientation, food sanitation, customer service techniques, safety regulations, and product knowledge, ensuring associates are well-equipped to meet the company's high standards. An important part of the role is effective communication skills, especially since the work environment involves interaction with customers and team members.
Physical demands of the position include standing for extended periods, lifting and moving products up to 30 pounds regularly, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing activities such as reaching, climbing, stooping, and kneeling. The working conditions may involve exposure to varying temperatures, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and chemicals. This role requires a vigilant approach to personal and workplace safety to navigate these conditions successfully.
Candidates should possess a high school diploma or GED as the minimum educational qualification. Prior related experience, or equivalent training, is beneficial. The ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions in English is essential, alongside basic math skills useful in handling money and measurements. Reasoning ability for following uninvolved instructions and problem-solving in standardized situations is required. Certification such as IST or AST and the completion of company training modules are also mandatory.
Harris Teeter offers group benefit plans that new employees become eligible for after completing applicable waiting periods, providing added value to the work experience. This position is designed for individuals who enjoy working in a team, have excellent interpersonal skills, and are eager to contribute to a productive and customer-focused environment. The company promotes inclusion by providing reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities to perform their job duties effectively.
