Job Description
Michigan State University (MSU) Starbucks is a part-time employment opportunity for active MSU Starbucks Student Supervisors who are transitioning to an On-Call status. MSU Starbucks operates within the university setting, providing premium coffee and customer experiences to the campus community. As a renowned outlet affiliated with both MSU and Starbucks, this establishment prides itself on delivering personalized customer interactions, maintaining high-quality beverage and food standards, and fostering a welcoming environment for students, faculty, and visitors alike. The barista position is instrumental in upholding these standards and contributes directly to the success and satisfaction of customers through engaging service and expert knowledge of Starbucks products.
This part-time Barista position offers a competitive hourly wage of $16.73 and requires an availability commitment of 15-20 hours per week. The role is ideal for current MSU Starbucks level three Student Supervisors who want to maintain a flexible schedule while continuing to develop their craft and customer service skills. Working hours generally fall between 8am and 5pm, Sunday through Saturday, but additional weekend shifts and later hours may be available depending on operational needs. Employees are expected to attend onboarding training and monthly staff meetings to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with company standards.
The role of the Barista at MSU Starbucks goes beyond simply serving coffee. Baristas create personalized experiences by demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of Starbucks' diverse product offerings, including beverages and food items. Employees take pride in their craftsmanship by maintaining store equipment and cleanliness to provide a safe and inviting environment. A strong emphasis is placed on teamwork and fostering collegial support among peers, enhancing the work atmosphere and the customer experience. Baristas employ operational tools and training resources such as Beverage and Food cards and the Now Brewing program to stay informed about promotions and to assist customers in finding their preferred products.
In customer interactions, baristas follow a customer service commitment that includes smiling, friendly greetings, learning customer names and orders, and practicing gratitude. When faced with challenges, they use the LATTE model to quickly restore the Starbucks Experience. Operational responsibilities include accurately ringing customer orders, adhering to cash handling procedures, and ensuring high standards of quality in product preparation and presentation. Employees also contribute to store upkeep by following cleaning routines and handling stock appropriately.
This position requires candidates who display a demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service, positivity, respect, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse environment. The job suits individuals motivated to hone their skills in coffee crafting and customer engagement, while contributing to a warm and inclusive workplace culture. The MSU Starbucks Barista role provides a dynamic, rewarding experience ideal for campus community members seeking part-time employment within a reputable brand.
