Job Requirements
- Valid Texas Driver License
- Ability to obtain State of Texas Driver License within 6 months if out-of-state
- Thorough background check
- Certified school transcripts
- Pass drug and alcohol test prior to employment
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing
- Ability to maintain good health and physical condition
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions including outdoors
- Ability to travel locally and regionally
- Ability to comply with City policies and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish
- Must be able to function in a principle-based organizational culture
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in park and recreation administration, public administration, or related field preferred
- Extensive experience in parks and recreation management or related field
- Knowledge of general principles and practices of parks and recreation administration
- Knowledge of budgeting, accounting, and financial management principles
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish
- Valid Texas Driver License
- Experience planning and managing recreational programs and facilities
- Ability to use computer software including word processing and spreadsheets
Job Duties
- Plan, evaluate, organize, direct, and supervise the overall activities of the Parks and Recreation Department
- Plan, coordinate, and monitor the development of all recreational programs and special events throughout the City
- Provide guidance for adequate delivery of service for Parks Administration, Maintenance, Construction, Aquatics, Recreation Centers, Leagues, Unitrade Stadium, The Max Golf Course, and Buena Vista Sports Complex
- Ensure the Parks and Recreation Board is properly organized and scheduled
- Approve all special permits in accordance with City policy and applicable laws
- Develop, prepare, and enforce departmental policies and procedures
- Plan, develop, and monitor departmental budget and expenditures
- Establish and monitor departmental goals and objectives
- Attend and conduct staff meetings and City Council meetings
- Approve departmental documents, reports, and purchase requisitions
- Maintain good communication between staff, visitors, and business contacts
- Follow telephone courtesy rules
- Perform other assigned duties
