Located in Norman, Oklahoma, the university strives to provide an inclusive environment where diverse talents, perspectives, and experiences are valued and encouraged. As an educational institution, the University of Oklahoma offers a wide range of academic programs, research opportunities, and community services while maintaining a strong focus on student success and community engagement. It is known for its vibrant campus life, comprehensive educational resources, and dedication to equal employment opportunities and inclusive policies that comply with all applicable federal and state laws to ensure a respectful and supportive working environment for all employees.
This job opportunity is for a Parking Control Officer position at the University of Oklahoma. This role is integral to the university’s parking services department, primarily responsible for the enforcement of parking regulations, managing traffic control, and providing essential information services related to parking and transport on campus. It is a dynamic position that demands some organizational skills and decision-making abilities to adhere to established procedures and standards. The Parking Control Officer acts as a liaison between the university, its students, staff, and visitors by ensuring compliance with parking policies and maintaining order in parking and traffic areas.
The responsibilities include issuing parking citations, impounding vehicles when necessary, monitoring traffic points, and managing pedestrian and vehicular flow, especially during special events. The role also involves responding to complaints, emergencies, and potentially assisting in police investigations by taking statements from the public. Communication is key, as the officer uses radios, telephones, and other equipment to coordinate dispatch services and gate controls. Additionally, clerical support, such as maintaining records and data entry, may be part of the job, highlighting the administrative aspect alongside field duties.
The position requires physical stamina, as the officer will be standing and walking for long periods, often navigating uneven terrain and handling tasks that involve lifting. Working outdoors in all seasonal weather conditions is a standard aspect and requires commitment to safety practices to protect oneself and others. The role is suited for individuals with strong customer service skills, basic computer knowledge, and a clean driving record, ideally someone who enjoys working in a structured yet varied environment and who takes pride in contributing to the safety and efficiency of campus operations. The employment type is typically full-time with shift work involved, and the position requires a valid Oklahoma driver's license or the ability to obtain one shortly after hiring.
