Job Requirements

  • Minimum associate degree preferred
  • minimum two years successful administrative support experience preferably in a parish or church setting
  • working knowledge and appreciation of Roman Catholic faith and practice
  • understanding of sacraments and funeral procedures
  • fluency or working knowledge of Spanish preferred
  • availability to work minimum 32 hours per week
  • willingness to pass a background check
  • willingness to complete Archdiocese of Detroit Protecting God's Children workshop

Job Qualifications

  • Must have highly developed computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, and preferably Apple Pages and Numbers
  • knowledge of Parish Soft
  • ability to type at least 50 words per minute with accuracy

Job Duties

  • Provides receptionist services for the parish office
  • records clear and accurate electronic and hand-written messages
  • handles routine questions about parish policies, activities, and personnel
  • greets and meets visitors in a friendly and courteous manner
  • multitasks and works with people of various temperaments
  • remains calm while working with people in distress
  • provides secretarial and clerical services to the pastor, bookkeeper, and senior parish staff
  • prepares regular bulk mailing
  • screens and sorts incoming mail
  • distributes mail and other related material
  • maintains parish files in an orderly manner
  • assists with ordering parish/church supplies
  • prepares and edits weekly parish bulletin
  • helps maintain and organize parish calendars
  • provides bookkeeping/record keeping services for parish
  • records and maintains sacramental registries
  • data entry for parish activities and parish councils
  • assists parish staff with telephonic, electronic, or written communications
