Job Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • extensive medical educational experience within a classroom setting and/or hands-on experience in the respective field
  • prior experience teaching is preferred
  • maintenance of Michigan EMS Instructor and Coordinator licensure as applicable
  • competence in teaching abilities to effectively facilitate learning
  • MDHHS Licensed EMS

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED with extensive medical educational experience within a classroom setting and/or hands-on experience in the field
  • prior teaching experience preferred
  • maintenance of Michigan EMS Instructor and Coordinator licensure
  • competence in teaching abilities to effectively facilitate learning
  • MDHHS Licensed EMS
  • excellent communication and analytical skills
  • ability to work well independently and within a team environment
  • thorough knowledge of the EMS system in its entirety

Job Duties

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver quality classroom instruction in lecture, clinical, and/or laboratory format based on the approved course outline
  • assess student learning using appropriate methods
  • demonstrate effectiveness with strong outcomes in student retention, student success, and student attendance
  • conduct an engaging classroom lecture and/or lab based on the course outline
  • motivate students by demonstrating sensitivity for concerns and actively involving students in classroom discussions and/or activities
  • advise students on attendance, grades, and issues in order to ensure successful completion of their course
  • contact absentee students by text, email, and/or phone as needed to improve retention
  • manage classroom environment through compliance with campus policies including classroom management, attendance, punctuality, and professionalism
  • ensure instructor preparedness before class by listing key information on the whiteboard
  • monitor and prepare supplies and equipment to ensure readiness prior to class
  • participate in faculty, staff, committee, and in-service meetings
  • demonstrate professional growth through engagement in educational associations, professional organizations, continuing education, related business experience, educational research, and awareness of current practices
  • actively support other departments
  • ensure all educational activity is conducted legally and ethically
  • demonstrate continuous improvement by working within the guidelines of the Faculty Development Program or other criteria such as success rate, retention rate, student attendance rate, student evaluations, and final exam pass rates
