Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of New York State Department of Health approved Paramedic Program
  • Six months ambulance experience as a Paramedic
  • Six months 911 ALS experience preferred
  • Valid Driver License
  • Weapons of Mass Destruction Certificate
  • Haz-Mat Awareness Certificate
  • CEVO or EVOC Certificate
  • Willingness to devote time to complete assigned tasks on schedule

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization

Job Duties

  • Provides ALS assessment of patient condition and treats in accordance with NYS DOH and Regional Guidelines
  • Transports patient to appropriate hospital and transfers care to hospital staff communicating patient's condition and any treatment rendered
  • Demonstrates an awareness of and respect for coworker/patient's cultural background
  • Assesses patients' ability to communicate in English and assists in the provision of an interpreter as needed
  • Complies with controlled substance policies and procedures
  • Reports to work on time and in uniform with appropriate personal equipment
  • Swipes in and out in accordance with policy
  • Minimizes out of service time and documents on Unit Activity Log with appropriate notifications
  • Complies with scheduling procedures and availability submission
  • Maintains ability and credentials to work in NYC 911 system
  • Participates in Department Hospital and Regional Quality Improvement Programs
  • Attends Department Meetings and Training Sessions
  • Works as a team with partner and other providers on scene and at the hospital to provide highest quality care
  • Cooperates and maintains professional relationships to facilitate care delivery
  • Follows NYU, FDNY and NYS DOH guidelines for operations of emergency vehicles
  • Checks vehicle and equipment at beginning of each shift replenishing supplies
  • Completes checklist noting deficiencies
  • Cleans and maintains vehicle and equipment
  • Restocks and refuels vehicle to maintain NYS DOH part 800 compliance
  • Complies with policies of the 911 System Provider Guide and NYS DOH BEMS Regulations
  • Notifies RCC at shift start and logs onto CAD system
  • Monitors MDT and radio for assignments, communicates changes in signal status
  • Maintains professional radio decorum and complies with local radio protocol
  • Complies with uniform policy
  • Maintains neat, clean professional appearance with visible identification
  • Completes Electronic Pre-Hospital Call Report including insurance information and claim signature accurately before end of shift
  • Drives ambulance safely in emergency and non-emergency mode throughout shift
