Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year job-related experience
- Maintain current EMT-Paramedic and REMAC certifications
- Maintain a current valid DMV driver's license
- Ability to lift, carry, and balance 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance)
- Ability to read and write in English and interpret oral, written, and diagnostic instructions
- Excellent physical stamina and mental alertness
- Ability to calculate weight and volume ratios
- Report punctually in complete uniform
- Attend required training and departmental meetings
- Must comply with NYS DOH, NYS DMV VTL, OSHA, REMAC, REMSCO, Hospital and Departmental protocols
- Preferred knowledge of Brooklyn and Queens geographic areas
- Preferred bilingual in Spanish
- Possess valid certifications including BLS and ACLS
- Must demonstrate ability to operate emergency medical equipment effectively
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or higher education
- Minimum 1 year of job-related experience
- NYS DMV driver's license
- REMAC Certification
- NYS DOH EMT-Paramedic certification
- Valid certifications for NYS Paramedic, NYC Paramedic, and AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS
- Working knowledge and proficiency of 10 codes and NYS and NYC ALS REMAC protocols
- Ability to lift 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance)
- Good communication skills in English
- Preferred bilingual proficiency in Spanish
- Ability to operate under stressful emergency conditions
- Familiarity with Brooklyn and Queens areas
- Commitment to completing 72 hours of CME in a 3-year period
- Willingness to comply with all relevant regulatory requirements
Job Duties
- Maintain current EMT-Paramedic and REMAC certifications
- Maintain a current valid DMV driver's license
- Read and write in English, interpret oral, written, and diagnostic form instructions, and read maps
- Lift, carry, and balance 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance)
- Calculate weight and volume ratios
- Report on time for assigned tours in complete uniform
- Inspect vehicle utilizing WEMS-DOH 800 form ensuring compliance and required stock of supplies and equipment
- Remain in constant communication with Dispatcher reporting dispositions and locations accurately
- Respond to assigned calls in a timely, safe, and expeditious manner adhering to NYS DMV Vehicle Traffic Laws and WEMS policy
- Provide scene and crew safety and report to Dispatcher as necessary requesting additional resources
- Gain access to patients, search for all patients at a scene, and triage as needed
- Provide Basic and Advanced Life Support measures within scope of practice and NYC REMAC Protocols
- Decide appropriate facility for transportation and secure patients in Ambulance ensuring safe transportation
- Complete all required documentation and relay patient information to receiving facilities
- Restock, clean, and render vehicle operational for next patient
- Attend CME, Department meetings, in-services, orientations, and updates
- Treat patients, family members, staff, and responding agencies with respect, privacy, courtesy, and professionalism
- Assist WHMC staff when unit is off service within scope of practice
- Comply with all NYS DOH, NYS DMV VTL, OSHA, REMAC, REMSCO, Hospital, and Departmental policies, rules, regulations, protocols, and laws
- Maintain vehicle and crew quarters cleanliness
- Make recommendations to Supervisor for improvements
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested by Supervisory personnel
