Job Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school or naturopathic medical training program
  • current licensure or certification if graduated from foreign medical school
  • minimum one year experience in a healthcare environment
  • ability to perform physical assessments including heart and lung sounds
  • ability to instruct donors and staff regarding plasma donation
  • capability to handle emergency situations
  • adherence to confidentiality policies
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment with occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
  • willingness to work overtime and extended hours
  • knowledge of OSHA and health safety regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from a paramedic, nursing, physician assistant, chiropractic, medical school or naturopathic medical training program
  • if graduated from a foreign medical school, must currently be licensed as a physician or have state certification as an emergency medical technician
  • minimum of one year experience in a health care environment
  • experience in plasma or whole blood collection preferred
  • ability to conduct physical assessments and instruct donors and staff on plasma donation benefits
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to handle emergency medical situations

Job Duties

  • Promotes positive customer relations with all donors
  • conducts confidential and effective interviews with donors to obtain necessary information regarding suitability to donate plasma
  • responds to medically related questions from staff and provides information on donor suitability
  • performs medical history reviews and health assessments on donors
  • assesses results of donor screening and laboratory tests to determine donor suitability
  • notifies and counsels donors regarding reactive test results and refers donors for follow-up
  • explains informed consent including procedures, hazards, and immunization schedules
  • handles medical emergencies at the center providing routine care and escalating situations as required
  • manages employee hepatitis B and influenza immunization programs
  • maintains accurate recording of donor data in electronic systems
  • ensures cleanliness and safety of the work environment
  • maintains confidentiality of donor and center information
  • may be cross-trained in other areas
  • may provide bilingual support as required
  • performs other related duties as assigned
