Job Requirements

  • Possession of a Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic certification or Licensed Paramedic
  • ITLS Trauma Life Support certificate
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate
  • AHA Pediatric Life Support certification
  • valid Texas Drivers License
  • American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
  • high school diploma or GED supplemented by specialized college level
  • a minimum of one year experience as paramedic in a 911 system
  • possess or acquire within six months NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800
  • must qualify and be recertified prior to the end of the TDSHS certification period to remain employed

Job Duties

  • Render pre-hospital emergency care according to established medical protocols
  • perform triage and a variety of emergency medical treatments at the basic and advanced life support level
  • provide continuing care and treatment while enroute to an emergency medical facility
  • monitor and report changes in patient condition
  • perform a variety of invasive and non-invasive therapies under medical direction and prescribed standing orders
  • drive the ambulance to emergency scenes and transport accident victims and medical patients
  • assist and coordinate with emergency service agencies in rescue operations and emergency situations
  • employ safe lifting and moving techniques
  • maintain ambulance vehicle, equipment, and station
  • lead and participate in public training classes on CPR, first aid, and emergency medical techniques
  • act as a preceptor for EMS students
  • handle radio communications professionally
  • keep records and logs on daily activities
  • perform related duties as assigned
