Job Requirements
- Minimum 18 years of age
- paramedic certification current or able to obtain prior to start date
- provide letter of support from program instructor if graduating paramedic student
- legally authorized to work in the United States
- not listed on any state or federal OIG exclusion list
- successful completion of CFFD pre-hire screening process
- physical ability to perform strenuous tasks including CPR, lifting patients and equipment up to 200 pounds
- must be able to operate ambulance stretcher
- must have correctable vision and hearing to perform job functions
- able to communicate clearly in English under stressful conditions
- maintain professional conduct and confidentiality
- must maintain certifications
- complete Phase I-IV Field Training and Evaluation Program
- valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable record
- current CPR certification
- TDSHS Paramedic certification or able to obtain within 90 days if selected
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- complete NIMS ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, and ICS-800 training
- successful completion of Phase I-IV Field Training and Evaluation Program
- valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- current CPR for Healthcare Providers card
- current TDSHS Paramedic or Licensed Paramedic certification or ability to obtain prior to start
- ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- excellent oral and written communication skills
- ability to perform strenuous physical tasks
- demonstrated knowledge of pre-hospital emergency medical care and rescue techniques
- knowledge of radio communication and computer-aided dispatch
- understanding of Incident Management System and Unified Command principles
Job Duties
- Responds to calls for emergency medical services and renders aid according to credential level authorized by Department Medical Director
- perform basic and advanced life support skills utilizing the Clinical Operating Guidelines
- assist in specialized emergency calls such as hazardous materials, extrication, and technical rescues
- provide comfort and compassion to patients and families
- timely and accurately enter EMS call data into department records management system
- regularly attend and participate in training
- maintain certifications required by the Department and Medical Director
- maintain cleanliness and inventory of equipment, vehicles, and facilities
- operate emergency vehicles safely
- notify supervisor of unit status and assist in returning units to service promptly
