Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • State or national paramedic certification as required
  • Current CPR and ACLS certifications
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of company operational procedures
  • Ability to drive large ambulances safely
  • Maintain professionalism with patients and co-workers
  • Sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Willingness to complete job orientation
  • Ability to work under hazardous environmental conditions
  • Complete all duties as assigned
  • Adhere to safety and communication regulations
  • Willingness to train and educate new staff

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • National and/or state certification as a paramedic
  • Current CPR certification by the American Heart Association
  • Current ACLS certification by the American Heart Association
  • Valid state-issued driver's license equivalent to a Louisiana Class D license
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively
  • Knowledgeable of company protocols and safety policies
  • Ability to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions
  • Preferred certifications such as NALS, PALS, PHTLS, PEEP, and instructor certifications

Job Duties

  • Conducts a careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assists other medical personnel as necessary
  • Administers prompt and efficient basic, intermediate and advanced life support care within the limits of licensure or certification and in accordance with approved protocols prior to and during transport
  • Provides careful handling of the patient to and from the ambulance
  • Provides safe and efficient transport of the patient in the ambulance to the medical facility
  • Provides safe and efficient transfer of patient and patient care information to the receiving personnel at the destination
  • Documents all aspects of patient condition and treatment on EMS run reports
  • obtains and records non-medical patient information as required
  • completes other patient documentation and forms as required
  • Conducts regular unit inventory and equipment testing to ensure readiness
  • Responsible for proper ambulance and equipment maintenance
  • Uses basic extrication tools and procedures as needed
  • Controls patient's surroundings to minimize danger and manage bystanders
  • Operates or drives the ambulance safely in emergency and non-emergency situations
  • Follows all FCC regulations when communicating
  • Attends mandatory meetings
  • Completes station and ambulance duties such as cleaning and inventory management
  • Trains new employees and precepts EMT students as an approved Field Training Officer
  • Performs additional duties as assigned
