Job Description

Mount Rainier National Park is an iconic and majestic natural landmark located in Washington State, rising to an elevation of 14,410 feet above sea level. It embodies the breathtaking beauty of pristine mountain meadows, cascading waterfalls, ancient old-growth forests, and a diverse ecosystem that attracts visitors from all over the world. Managed by the National Park Service, the park offers many recreational opportunities including hiking, camping, wildlife viewing, and ranger-led educational programs. It is a beloved destination for nature enthusiasts and families alike, providing a unique experience in a protected environment. The park operates year-round with a peak season during the summer months from April through October, drawing a significant number of tourists and creating seasonal employment opportunities for individuals seeking meaningful and dynamic roles in nature-focused hospitality and guest services.

We are currently seeking a Cafeteria Food Service Attendant to join our dedicated team at Mount Rainier National Park. This position reports directly to the General Manager and is a vital part of our food operations, focusing on delivering excellent guest service through various facets of food preparation, serving, selling, cooking, and cleaning. The role is seasonal and primarily available during the peak operating months of the park. The wage for this position is $17.77 per hour, reflecting our commitment to providing competitive compensation for our team members. Benefits include sick pay in accordance with Washington State law, employee discounts, recreational programs, an employee assistance program, and optional housing and meal plans.

In this role, you will assist guests with friendly and positive interactions, providing information and handling sales accurately and efficiently using our point of sale systems. You will maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of food preparation and serving areas in accordance with established food safety standards, which is critical to our commitment to guest satisfaction and public health. Your duties will include preparing and arranging food for service, quickly serving guest orders, replenishing inventory items, and cooking simple short-order items. You will also help keep the work environment clean by washing dishes, cleaning counters, and maintaining kitchen equipment.

Successful candidates for this position should demonstrate strong sanitation habits, ideally hold a Food Safety Certification, and have a working knowledge of food service POS systems. Experience working in a National Park or similar hospitality setting is preferred but not required. The physical demands of the job include standing for extended periods, frequent movement and lifting up to 40 pounds, and the ability to communicate clearly in English. Given the unique environment, physical presence at the job site is essential to perform all duties appropriately.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working in dynamic environments, interacting with a diverse group of guests and colleagues, and contributing to a memorable visitor experience at one of the nation’s most treasured natural wonders. The role combines hospitality, safety, and guest engagement, making it ideal for candidates who are motivated, respectful, and eager to develop their skills in food service and customer support within a nationally recognized Park setting. Joining our team means becoming part of a community that values diversity, responsibility, and the promotion of stewardship for the natural environment while offering comprehensive training and support to help you succeed.
