The role of an Overnight Cook II at Bell Hospital is critical in ensuring that patients and hospital staff receive nutritious, desirable food to support health and recovery. This position involves preparing large volumes of food according to preset menus, small menus, and special therapeutic diets required by patients. The Overnight Cook II plays a pivotal role in food production and service during the overnight shifts, with shift hours that may be from 10pm to 6:30am or 8pm to 4:30am. The duties encompass a variety of cooking tasks such as preparing soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other food items using standardized recipes and daily worksheets. The role demands technical kitchen skills, attention to safety and sanitation standards, inventory management, and the ability to adapt working hours to meet the demands of the cafeteria or catering services. In addition to food preparation, the cook is responsible for organizing daily production, portioning, wrapping, labeling, and dating food items to meet unit standards and HACCP guidelines for food safety. Competence in critical thinking and interpersonal relationships is essential to effectively coordinate with healthcare staff and meet the dietary needs of patients. The Overnight Cook II must maintain a clean and safe food preparation environment and may also be called upon to test and evaluate new recipes. - Some experience as a cook in a restaurant, institutional or large volume feeding
- High school graduate or GED preferred
- Basic reading, writing and simple mathematics

Job Duties
- Completes the cooking process of menu items requiring basic technical skills such as soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs using daily worksheets and standardized recipes
- Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills
- Demonstrates ability to provide care and service safely and efficiently for the care of each patient
- Performs duties in Food Production and or the Cafeteria
- Organizes daily production in unit
- Prepares food for inventory and or service including portioning, wrapping, labeling, dating food items prepared for patients, cafeteria, and or catering according to unit standards
- Ensures proper storage and rotation of inventories in refrigerators and freezers following HACCP and department standards
- Maintains a safe and sanitary food preparation and service environment per unit standards
- Tests and evaluates new recipes
- Adjusts work hours to early or late to prepare needed Cafeteria or Catering products
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department
