Job Description
Barr-Nunn Transportation is a well-established dry van truckload carrier that has been operational since 1982. With a robust fleet consisting of approximately 600 tractors and 2,150 trailers, Barr-Nunn has earned a reputation for outstanding on-time pickup and delivery services. The company primarily serves major e-commerce clients and other businesses that demand reliable and timely freight transportation across the United States. Known for its exceptional safety record and award-winning service, Barr-Nunn stands out as a financially stable and profitable carrier in the competitive trucking industry. This makes it an attractive employer for professional truck drivers seeking long-term career opportunities with a reputable company. Barr-Nunn’s commitment to safety, reliability, and driver satisfaction sets it apart from many other trucking companies that may experience volatility in the market or struggle to maintain consistent service standards.
The company is currently offering a rewarding position for solo company truck drivers who are looking to earn a competitive salary with excellent benefits. The role involves hauling 100 percent no-touch freight using full dry van truckloads. Drivers typically run routes that keep them on the road for 21 days followed by 7 days at home, providing a good balance between work and personal time. One unique aspect of this role is the paid flight home policy for drivers who park their trucks at one of Barr-Nunn’s terminals. For drivers living east of I-35 parking at the Columbus terminal, the company offers reimbursement for fuel costs to and from home.
In terms of compensation, the company offers an attractive annual salary range of $85,000 to $95,000, with pay based on experience and endorsements at 65 to 70 cents per mile. Barr-Nunn also offers sizeable bonuses, including hiring bonuses for drivers with or without HAZMAT endorsements, orientation pay on the first paycheck, transition bonuses, and additional payouts after 30 days of employment. Other forms of accessorial pay such as stop-off pay are also available when applicable. Drivers receive additional financial incentives through safety-based pay raises, CSA safety bonuses every 90 days, a $650 on-road safety bonus, and annual anniversary bonuses rewarding long-term service. Premium pay rates apply when hauling placarded HAZMAT freight, which constitutes less than 2 percent of the loads.
Barr-Nunn ensures that its tractor fleet is well-maintained and driver-friendly. Each assigned Freightliner Cascadia tractor comes equipped with modern amenities such as a TV, microwave, refrigerator, inverter, free Sirius XM radio, bedding, sheets, pillows, and CB radio. The trailers are newer 53-foot Wabash models featuring tracking and cargo sensors for added security and peace of mind. Drivers also benefit from advanced technology, including Prepass Plus weigh station bypass, toll transponders, and the ability to submit paperwork digitally via smartphone apps like Drive Axle or Transflo, which enhances operational efficiency.
The employment type for this position is full-time with a focus on solo company driving. Drivers are required to have a valid CDL-A license and meet certain criteria such as a minimum of 9 months of verifiable tractor-trailer experience, no DWIs in the past 5 years, fewer than 3 moving violations in the recent 3 years, and clean DOT physical and drug screens. Barr-Nunn does not allow drivers to haul loads through NYC or Canada. Successful applicants will join a company that supports its employees not just through competitive pay but also through health and welfare benefits including BCBS health insurance, dental insurance, a free $10,000 life insurance policy, and an excellent 401(k) savings plan with company match. Paid time off is earned on an accelerated schedule based on mileage driven, and drivers are paid weekly to ensure steady income flow.
In essence, Barr-Nunn Transportation offers truck drivers a chance to build a stable, rewarding career with a respected and reliable company. With excellent compensation packages, safety incentives, modern equipment, and strong support structures, Barr-Nunn is a prime choice for those seeking long-term employment in the truckload industry. This role not only promises a lucrative pay scale but also a supportive environment where drivers’ contributions are valued and rewarded.
