Job Description
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), specifically the Florida Forest Service, is seeking a dedicated and skilled professional to join their team as an OPS Duty Officer. Job Requirements
- A high school diploma or its equivalent
- One year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting or other public contact work
- College education can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for required experience
- Valid class E driver license
- Ability to work rotating midnight shifts including weekends
- Must pass background screening including fingerprinting
- Willingness to travel occasionally for training
- Must provide authentic responses during recruitment without using AI tools
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting, or public contact work
- Valid class E driver license
- Ability to work rotating midnight shifts including weekends
- Proficient in operating computer communication systems
- Knowledge of Florida geography and fire control laws
- Strong communication and multitasking skills
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in emergency situations
Job Duties
- Coordinate emergency response of firefighters, supervisors, pilots, and law enforcement personnel through the communications center
- Receive and process radio and telephone information regarding wildfires and emergencies
- Dispatch emergency response personnel and/or aircraft as needed
- Operate computer systems for transmitting, receiving, and storing fire reports, authorizations, weather data, and other records
- Approve or deny outdoor burning authorizations and provide fire safety advice to landowners
- Collect and report weather conditions, crew readiness, and readiness levels to supervisory personnel
- Relay administrative communications to appropriate personnel
- Provide information to media and public regarding fire conditions
- Assist with typing, correspondence, filing, and inventory control
- Maintain up-to-the-minute knowledge of crews and equipment status
- Coordinate with state, federal, and local agencies during emergencies
- Perform other related duties as assigned
