Job Description

Florida State University (FSU) is one of the nation's premier research institutions, preserving and disseminating knowledge across a broad spectrum of disciplines including the sciences, technology, arts, humanities, and professional studies. Founded in 1851, it holds the distinction of being the oldest continuous site of higher education in Florida. The university is renowned for its commitment to academic excellence, creativity, and a vibrant community that fosters critical thinking grounded in liberal arts traditions. As an educational leader, FSU provides a dynamic and engaging environment where innovative ideas and research flourish, shaping the future across various fields.

FSU’s Childcare & Early Learning Program plays an essential role in supporting families and the campus community by providing nurturing, safe, and educational environments for young children. The program emphasizes holistic development for children through best practices in early childhood education, nutrition, and care. This position is a part of the OPS (Other Personnel Services) temporary employment classification, offering individuals an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to child development while gaining valuable experience in a reputable academic setting.

The role of Childcare Kitchen Assistant at FSU involves assisting with daily meal preparation and kitchen tasks critical to maintaining the nutritional standards set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This includes preparing meals that meet established guidelines, delivering meals to classrooms, managing the loading and unloading of dishwashers, and ensuring that food and paper supplies are adequately stocked. Attention to detail and adherence to health and safety regulations are crucial components of this position, ensuring a clean and safe kitchen environment for both staff and children.

This role holds significant importance in the operation of FSU's childcare facility, providing the nutritional foundation necessary for children’s growth and learning. It requires teamwork, good communication skills, and the ability to follow both verbal and written instructions accurately. Physical activity is a component of the position, including lifting and moving items up to 25 pounds. Although temporary and part-time, this role is a valuable opportunity to work within an esteemed university setting that values diversity, equal opportunity, and community engagement. The Childcare Kitchen Assistant contributes directly to the wellbeing of children by supporting mealtime routines essential to their daily care and educational experiences.
