Block 22 is currently seeking an Idaho Central Arena Operations Tech / Conversion Lead to join their team. This role reports directly to the Operations Manager and plays a crucial part in coordinating the daily activities of workers, ensuring the Idaho Central Arena functions safely, efficiently, and economically. The position requires overseeing the conversion crew that manages event transitions, which involves moving retractable seating, setting up decking, removing and installing hockey glass, dashers, chairs, tables, and other equipment essential for different types of events. The Operations Tech / Conversion Lead is responsible for learning and applying proper procedures to guide temporary labor crews in these tasks, ensuring swift turnaround between events. Many of these conversions take place overnight, so the candidate must be comfortable and effective working during these hours, with availability for overnight shifts being a firm requirement.
This role is uniquely challenging due to the time-sensitive nature of event setups and conversions. The successful candidate will work tirelessly with the team, aiming to deliver the highest quality experience for all customers with meticulous attention to detail, cleanliness, and safety. They will operate an assortment of small tools and equipment, including vehicles, forklifts, and ice resurfacers, and will take part in maintenance activities related to ice quality, refrigeration, and facility upkeep. Responsibilities extend to mechanical repairs, cleaning, greasing, and minor fixes on tools and vehicles to assure operational readiness.
Additionally, the Operations Tech / Conversion Lead will assist in both setup and cleanup during events and promote safe working practices by conducting safety inspections on-site. The role demands effective communication skills to maintain professional and respectful interaction with supervisors, staff, and the public alike. Participation in meetings and training sessions is vital for ongoing development. The incumbent will also take the lead in the development and enforcement of standardized changeover procedures, staff training, and motivation.
Financial accountability is part of the role, as it involves managing cost accounting related to conversions and overseeing contract administration for supplies and equipment procurement. Inventory control and evaluation of material requirements will also be under their purview. Job Requirements
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
- Two years of experience in a related position or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience managing and developing teams
- Specific knowledge of portable seating, ice maintenance, hockey glass and boards, portable basketball floor and other associated equipment
- Must have a continuous drive and passion for creating an exceptional experience for all guests, employees, and teams
- Demonstrated ability to operate small tools/equipment and light duty vehicles in a proficient manner
- Demonstrated carpentry and/or plumbing skills are considered an asset
- Physical ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs, push and pull equipment and parts weighing up to 100 lbs, independently or assisted
- Ability to work shift work (days, evenings, nights), overtime, weekends or unscheduled call-ins
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Job Duties
- Operate small tools/equipment, vehicles, forklift, and the ice resurfacer in a safe and appropriate manner
- Perform a wide range of facility based operational activities and maintenance
- Perform ice maintenance logs and checks of refrigeration equipment
- Perform mechanical and minor maintenance of ice resurfacing equipment or other parts of the facility or equipment
- Perform general maintenance and repair activities on vehicles and equipment including daily inspections, cleaning, greasing and minor repairs
- Assist with the set-up and clean-up of events
- Promote and require safe working practices and conduct on-site safety inspections
- Maintain effective, professional, courteous, and respectful communications with supervisors, other staff, and the public
- Attend and participate in scheduled meetings (departmental or other) and training sessions
- Under the direction of the Operations Manager, assist and coordinate the work of conversion crew
- Oversee the conversion and changeover of the building from event to event including hockey games, basketball, concerts, boxing, graduations, family shows, and press conferences
- Aid in selecting, training, motivating, and evaluating staff
