Job Duties

  • Hire, train, evaluate and supervise over 20 part-time student employees including building supervisors and event staff
  • Train staff in customer service, conflict management, risk management, communication, event management and business operations
  • Create, encourage and support professional development opportunities for student staff through training programs, professional association involvement and individual mentoring
  • Plan in-service and coaching sessions focusing on skill development, transferable work skills and staff empowerment
  • Develop student leaders through regular meetings and coaching sessions
  • Assess student staff learning outcomes and participate in departmental training efforts
  • Supervise daily operations of the Aquatic and Recreation Center and Maclellan Gym
  • Interact with facility users to enhance customer service and enforce policies
  • Assist with security initiatives including access authorization, radios, security cameras, key authorizations, risk management drills, accident/incident reporting and risk mitigation
  • Collect data on program operations, participation, satisfaction and learning
  • Conduct regular walk-throughs and facility reviews
  • Oversee facility programs, events and rentals including scheduling, billing, contracts, personnel and facility preparations
  • Manage daily schedule ensuring proper facility preparation and assist reservation groups
  • Organize informal recreation schedules for drop-in sports and balance this with reservations
  • Seek facility revenue opportunities managing over 300 reservation requests and generating over $40,000 in revenue
  • Assist in annual budget preparation, planning and projections exceeding $90,000
  • Present capital requests and ensure compliance with budget and purchasing policies
  • Support membership sales, guest pass sales and operate facility/membership management software
  • Maintain inventory and purchase equipment for checkout and operations
  • Develop and monitor annual budget with adjustments as needed
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners to promote a welcoming recreation environment
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices and standards
  • Work with Campus Recreation staff to advance department missions and strategic plans
  • Support overall mission of Campus Recreation, Enrollment Management and Student Affairs including participation in campus campaigns and projects
