The role on offer is for an On-Call Cook within the Elior Independent School Dining segment, located in New York, New York. This part-time, onsite position is ideal for reliable and adaptable individuals who thrive in dynamic and versatile work environments. The On-Call Cook position requires the flexibility to fulfill various roles including Cook, Prep Cook, Server, Utility Worker, and Dishwasher based on the specific needs of each shift. This unique opportunity offers variety and the chance to gain experience across multiple facets of food service operations.
As an On-Call Food Service Employee, the individual will be expected to prepare and cook menu items in accordance with recipes and food safety standards, as well as assist with ingredient preparation such as chopping and portioning. Additionally, maintaining clean and organized workstations is essential. Duties also encompass serving customers with professionalism, answering questions, accommodating special requests where possible, and ensuring dining areas and serving spaces remain hygienic and orderly.
The role extends to utility and dishwashing tasks such as cleaning dishes, cookware, and kitchen equipment, assisting with trash removal, and restocking necessary supplies to maintain smooth operational flow. General responsibilities include adhering to food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety guidelines, supporting team members during high-demand periods, setting up and breaking down workstations, and performing other duties as assigned based on the needs of the operation.
This position requires applicants to have at least one year of prior culinary experience in a quality and high-volume environment with a focus on scratch cooking. A solid working knowledge of proper culinary methods, techniques, and standards is essential. Attention to detail, the ability to multitask in fast-paced settings, and customer service experience are also important attributes for success in this role. Food handler certification is a desirable qualification but not mandatory.
