Job Description
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. Established over a century ago, the Society funds and conducts cancer research, shares expert information, supports patients, and spreads the word about cancer prevention. The organization is widely respected for its comprehensive programs aimed at saving lives and improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. It operates through the commitment of its large network of employees and 1.3 million volunteers across the United States. The culture at the American Cancer Society is deeply rooted in diversity and inclusion, believing that different perspectives and experiences strengthen its community impact. This environment fosters innovation and dedication to service, ensuring the organization's efforts reach all communities, especially those underserved or disproportionately affected by cancer.
The Concierge role at the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge is a crucial part of delivering excellent guest experiences. Hope Lodge provides free, temporary lodging to cancer patients and their caregivers during treatment, creating a supportive, home-like environment. The Concierge acts as the first point of contact for all guests, responsible for managing front desk operations, creating a welcoming atmosphere, and maintaining security. This part-time position typically offers less than 20 hours per week with a pay rate of $18.59 per hour and requires daytime availability. Although this role is not benefits eligible due to limited hours, it offers the rewarding opportunity to be part of a mission-driven team that directly supports cancer patients and their families.
In this role, the Concierge will greet guests, manage the check-in and check-out process, respond to guest inquiries, and coordinate transportation and security protocols. The position requires exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems. The Concierge ensures the front desk area remains organized and that guest records are accurate while monitoring safety and security in the lobby. Candidates with previous hospitality or guest service experience and those with a passion for customer service will thrive in this position. Moreover, the role demands physical endurance to manage tasks such as standing for long periods, assisting guests with luggage, and addressing their needs promptly and kindly. The American Cancer Society values and supports its employees with wellness programs, professional development, and various employee benefits, aiming to cultivate a sustainable and gratifying work experience.
