Job Description

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. With a solid foundation built on the efforts of 1.3 million volunteers and numerous staff members, ACS works tirelessly toward its lifesaving mission through education, advocacy, research funding, and patient support services. Headquartered in the United States, ACS has regional facilities across various states, including Hawaii, where the Hope Lodge facility stands as a beacon of hope and comfort for cancer patients and their families. This specialized lodge provides free temporary housing to cancer patients who must travel away from home for treatment and their caregivers, ensuring a supportive environment during a challenging time in their lives.

The role of Concierge at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Honolulu, Hawaii, is part-time with shifts based on business needs typically amounting to less than 20 hours per week. This position is hourly paid at $18.59 and does not qualify for employee benefits. The Concierge serves as the frontline representative of the Hope Lodge, responsible for welcoming guests, managing check-in and check-out processes, and fostering a warm, safe environment tailored to the unique needs of the guests receiving cancer care. The person in this role ensures that all guests feel valued and supported by responding to inquiries, coordinating transportation and the EMPOWER Program schedules, and maintaining the safety and organization of the front desk and lobby area.

The Concierge position demands exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate approach to guest services. It involves multitasking between front desk management duties, security monitoring, and guest interaction, often under time-sensitive or emotionally demanding circumstances. The job requires standing for extended periods, assisting guests with luggage, and occasionally carrying out manual tasks such as opening doors and moving packages. It is a key role in ensuring that guests at Hope Lodge experience a positive and comforting stay amidst their cancer treatment journey.

This job offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about community service, hospitality, and making a tangible difference in the lives of people undergoing cancer treatment. The work environment embraces diversity and inclusion, underscoring ACS’s commitment to equal employment opportunity. Although this part-time role is not benefits eligible, ACS provides generous paid time off policies, medical, dental, and retirement benefits, wellness programs, and professional development opportunities to its regular staff, aiming to enhance employee skills and well-being.
