Job Description

The hiring establishment is a nutrition services provider specializing in the delivery and management of food products to various sites, ensuring timely and efficient distribution primarily through the use of refrigerated box trucks and delivery vans. This company operates within the food service industry, focusing on maintaining the quality and safety of the food products distributed while adhering to the regulations set forth by the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Their operations require strong logistical coordination, precise execution of delivery routes, and professional customer service to maintain satisfactory client relations.

This position is for a Nutrition Services Truck Driver, a part-time summer role running Monday through Friday from approximately May 26 to August 7. The work schedule typically spans Monday to Thursday, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, though it may vary based on daily workload demands. This role is physically demanding and requires a candidate who can handle manual lifting and frequent stops while navigating local routes safely and efficiently.

The primary function of the Nutrition Services Truck Driver is to manage products, vehicles, and routes assigned to them with precision and care. Daily responsibilities include the accurate and efficient loading and unloading of trucks, as well as driving a 16-foot or 26-foot refrigerated box truck equipped with hydraulic liftgates or delivery vans. The role emphasizes maintaining proper loading procedures, including weight distribution and balance, to ensure safety and compliance with transportation laws. Drivers are also responsible for basic vehicle inspections and reporting any maintenance issues to prevent disruptions in service. The Nutrition Services Truck Driver must work closely with various site locations to deliver products within specific time frames, ensuring that deliveries match customer directions and expectations.

In addition to driving, the position requires performing all other duties assigned within the warehouse and production facilities. This includes non-driving tasks that support the overall operation of the nutrition services department. The job demands a high level of physical effort, including the repeated manual handling of heavy items over 50 pounds with the assistance of 2-wheel dollies, standing for extended periods, and working in fast-paced and sometimes adverse weather conditions.

Candidates are expected to have a valid driver’s license, with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred, and at least six months of commercial driving experience or three months of food service delivery experience. Previous customer service experience is preferred, highlighting the role’s requirement for strong communication and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with smartphones and navigation apps is essential to managing frequent stops and navigating area routes efficiently. Candidates must also be able to pass a Tennessee Motor Vehicle Report to qualify for employment. Overall, this role provides an opportunity to contribute to a vital service that supports nutrition and food delivery needs within the community during a peak summer period, enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
