Job Description

Torrance Unified School District is a prominent educational institution committed to fostering academic excellence and student well-being in the Torrance, California area. Recognized for its dedication to inclusive education and community involvement, the District offers a supportive work environment emphasizing equal opportunity and diversity. It actively supports professional growth and ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, including Title IX and affirmative action policies. As a respected school district, it strives to provide quality education while maintaining safe and nutritious food services for its students and staff. The District's Nutrition Services Department plays a crucial role in supporting the health and nutrition of students across multiple school sites by managing meal preparation, quality control, and adherence to health regulations throughout its facilities. This ensures that the nutritional needs of students are met in a consistent and effective manner. The position of Nutrition Services Supervisor III is a full-time, 10-months-per-year role with a weekday schedule from 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM. This is a promotional-only opportunity restricted to probationary and permanent employees within the District who meet the set qualifications. Candidates must submit their District Classified application along with a supplemental form by June 23, 2026, 4:30 PM, to be considered. The selection process includes an evaluation of the supplemental form and an oral technical interview scheduled tentatively between June 29 and July 17, 2026. Notifications will be sent to qualified applicants via US mail or email. Reporting directly to the Manager of Nutrition Services, the Nutrition Services Supervisor III will plan, organize, coordinate, and supervise the preparation of food items at a designated central kitchen facility. The role demands ensuring efficient production methods, compliance with health, safety, and nutrition standards, and the effective training and supervision of assigned personnel. The supervisor will also provide one-on-one training to staff at satellite sites on production, record keeping, and work simplification techniques to maintain high operational standards throughout the District. This position is integral in sustaining the District's commitment to healthful meal programs by monitoring and directing the food production process that serves middle and elementary schools across the District. Supervisors at this level are distinguished by their leadership of central kitchen operations and by their responsibility to ensure seamless delivery and compliance with regulatory standards. This role contrasts with the Nutrition Services Supervisor I, which is an entry-level supervision role at individual school sites, and Nutrition Services Supervisor II, which manages high school cafeterias and snack areas. Candidates for this supervisory position must have a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school plus three years of experience in large food service operations, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity. Additionally, they must obtain a Food Protection Manager Certification issued by an approved organization within five months of employment to comply with California Health and Safety Code Section 113716. In summary, the Nutrition Services Supervisor III position within the Torrance Unified School District represents an exciting leadership opportunity for qualified individuals committed to advancing the quality and safety of school nutrition programs. It offers a structured career advancement path, essential community impact through nutritional services, and an inclusive employment environment honoring diversity and equal opportunity.
