The role available is an Elementary School Kitchen Manager position within the Nutrition Services program. This position is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and operating the kitchen at an elementary school, which plays a vital part in the district’s mission to support students’ nutritional well-being as part of the educational process. The Kitchen Manager will work independently and as part of a broader team to prepare and serve nutritious, high-quality meals to students during the school day. This includes ensuring that the kitchen operates efficiently within budgeted revenues, meets all health and safety standards, and complies with federal, state, and district policies. Hours for this role are from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, and it is a continuing full-time role, with the anticipated start date between May 11, 2026, and June 4, 2026. Salary is aligned with Level 4 on the Nutrition Services Salary Schedule, with increments based on experience in related school food service positions within Washington State public schools.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the daily operation of the kitchen, maintaining compliance with HACCP food safety guidelines, managing inventory and payroll, and training or guiding other kitchen staff. The ideal candidate will be someone with experience in quantity food preparation or institutional feeding operations, who possesses strong leadership skills and demonstrates a commitment to customer service and nutrition education. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of one year work experience in school food service or related area
- Valid Food Handler's Permit
- Hepatitis A vaccination or waiver
- Current fingerprint record on file
- Current first aid and CPR certification
- Ability to lift at least 30 pounds without assistance
- Capability to stand, bend, stoop, and lift overhead for extended periods
- Availability to work 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM shifts
- Ability to operate district nutrition services computer hardware and software
- Completion of safety and sanitation classes within the last five years
Job Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to perform responsibilities effectively
- Meet criteria for Worker I and Assistant Manager positions
- Two years experience in quantity food production or equivalent
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment, food safety, and USDA regulations
- Valid Food Handler's Permit and other health certifications
- High school diploma or GED with relevant work experience
- Ability to read, write, communicate, and perform basic math
- Capable of lifting at least 30 pounds and standing for long periods
- Professional attitude with teamwork and leadership skills
- Experience working with diverse groups while maintaining confidentiality
Job Duties
- Coordinate and supervise daily kitchen operations
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations
- Manage inventory, payroll, and accounting records
- Train and support kitchen staff on policies and procedures
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals to students
- Open and close the kitchen at the beginning and end of the school year
- Complete required training and attend related meetings or workshops
