Job Requirements

High school diploma, GED certificate, or progress toward GED as required by Kentucky law
completion of training course for beginning school food service personnel certification
knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils
knowledge of quantity food service preparation
understanding of sanitation practices
interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
knowledge of proper lifting techniques
ability to serve food according to health regulations
ability to prepare, cook, and serve various foods in quantity
ability to learn and follow health and sanitation requirements
maintenance of clean and sanitary food service equipment and areas
ability to operate cash register and make change accurately
ability to learn and explain policies and procedures
ability to meet schedules and deadlines
ability to follow oral and written directions

Job Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent
completion of training course for certification of beginning school food service personnel
knowledge of standard kitchen equipment, utensils, and measurements
understanding of quantity food service preparation, serving, and storage
ability to adjust and extend recipes and make proper substitutions
knowledge of sanitation practices related to food handling and serving
interpersonal skills with tact, patience, and courtesy
mastering proper lifting techniques
ability to serve food in accordance with health regulations
ability to prepare and serve a variety of foods in quantity
ability to learn and follow health and sanitation requirements
ability to maintain clean and sanitary food service areas
ability to operate cash registers and handle money accurately
ability to apply policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
ability to meet schedules and deadlines
ability to follow oral and written instructions
ability to work cooperatively with others
ability to lift heavy objects

Job Duties

Prepare food service facilities for serving food
count and set out appropriate number of food trays
prepare the steam table for serving hot meals
wash and prepare eating and serving areas
set out food, trays, and beverages according to established procedures
maintain work and serving areas in clean, sanitary, and safe condition
wash and clean counters, steam tables, pots, pans, trays, and kitchen equipment
heat, portion, and serve food to students and staff
count money and prepare moneyboxes or cash registers with appropriate change
sell foods and beverages, make proper change
collect tickets and money for meals sold
assist in storing unused food supplies
dispose of unusable leftovers and garbage
operate kitchen equipment such as cash register, dishwasher, and ovens
report faulty equipment
perform related duties as assigned
