The role of Nutrition Services Aide at Cantex is integral to the smooth operation and delivery of nutrition services within the care environment. This position primarily involves assisting with food preparation and service, ensuring sanitation and quality standards are consistently met. Nutrition Services Aides are responsible for preparing and serving food items, setting up dining room tables and patient trays with the necessary tableware and condiments, and handling dishwashing and cleaning tasks. They play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and safety standards by sanitizing equipment, cleaning work areas, and identifying potential safety hazards.

Additionally, this role requires careful attention to detail as Nutrition Services Aides prepare and deliver nourishment and supplements labeled for individual patients, maintain accurate tray tickets, and assist with food service equipment. Beyond food service duties, aides also manage routine cleaning tasks like emptying trash and performing floor care to support a hygienic environment. Emphasis is placed on adhering to Cantex’s policies and procedures, including those for abuse prevention and patient safety, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all patients and staff.

Job Requirements

  • current state Food Handler Certificate
  • ability to read, write, and speak English

  • physically able to perform cleaning and food service tasks
  • reliable and punctual

Job Duties

  • Assures that sanitation and quality standards are met
  • washes and sanitizes dishes, pots, tableware, and utensils as needed
  • cleans and sanitizes equipment as assigned
  • completes logs as assigned
  • prepares dining room tables and patient room trays with proper tableware, condiments, and tray ticket
  • performs various food preparation tasks and assists in apportioning servings
  • prepares and serves beverages for trayline and dining rooms
  • performs other cleaning tasks according to established schedules
  • prepares and/or delivers nourishment and supplements identified with patient labels
  • maintains tray tickets making changes as may be directed or necessary
  • delivers soiled linens to laundry
  • identifies and corrects safety hazards
  • fills orders for between-meal nourishments as assigned
  • wraps flatware in napkins, as applicable
  • clears and wipes dining tables and trayline following meals
  • maintains daily care of dishwashing, pot/pan, lavatory, and hand sinks, worktables, dish storage areas
  • empties trash cans per shift and cleans as assigned
  • performs floor care by sweeping and/or mopping
  • has reviewed Cantex Continuing Care Network Policy and Procedures for Abuse Prevention and knows the employees responsibility to enforce it
  • attends in-services, understands, and complies with Patient Care Management Systems
  • responsible for assuring patient/resident safety
  • performs other duties and tasks as assigned
