Job Description
Performance Foodservice, a leading broadline distributor under Performance Food Group (PFG), offers an essential link in the food supply chain to a diverse clientele comprising independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company prides itself on a comprehensive network of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and industry experts who foster strong relationships with customers. This team not only delivers quality food products but also provides insightful guidance on menu development, operational efficiency, product selection, and business growth strategies. As a vital part of America's food distribution system, Performance Foodservice continues to evolve, aiming to support its customers with superior service and trusted expertise.
The driver role at Performance Foodservice is a critical position focused on delivering and unloading various food and food-related products using straight trucks or vans. This role plays a major part in maintaining smooth delivery operations, particularly handling urgent orders affected by mispicks or customer service concerns. Operating mainly on local routes, both intrastate and interstate, the driver ensures complete compliance with all company policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, promoting a culture of safety and accountability throughout the distribution process.
This position operates within a scheduled 5-day work week that requires Sunday to Friday availability. Shifts have flexibility, generally floating between different times based on coverage needs, and when no coverage is needed, the standard schedule runs from 3:30 pm to midnight. The role pays a competitive $22.00 per hour wage along with an attractive benefits package, including Day 1 Health and Wellness Benefits, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, 401K employer matching, education assistance programs, paid time off, and many other incentives designed to support employees' professional growth and personal wellbeing.
The responsibilities are broad and varied, including thorough pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections of trucks, vans, and trailers, ensuring all freight is properly loaded and secured, and maintaining accurate and legible paperwork for deliveries. Drivers are expected to unload products safely, transport items to designated customer storage areas, perform damage control checks, verify deliveries by obtaining proper customer signatures, and handle monetary transactions where applicable. Security of equipment and freight at all times is paramount, alongside maintaining a clean and orderly work environment both in vehicles and loading docks.
Additionally, this role demands strong communication skills as the driver acts as a representative of the company, interacting professionally with customers, vendors, and coworkers. They support a safe and inclusive work culture characterized by rewards, recognition, and mutual respect. The job promotes growth opportunities for employees committed to performing essential work influencing America’s food distribution landscape.
Performance Foodservice and its subsidiaries uphold equal employment opportunity in all hiring and employment practices, safeguarding against discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, marital status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, disability, genetic information, or veteran status, among other protected classes. This comprehensive approach underscores the company’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and fairness in the workplace.
This driver position at Performance Foodservice is a rewarding opportunity for motivated individuals seeking to join a dynamic company that values safety, customer service excellence, and career advancement. Candidates can expect a supportive environment with a strong focus on employee wellness and recognition, along with the chance to contribute meaningfully to the broader mission of delivering high-quality food products across various sectors of the food service industry.
