This role is a US Foods Driver position based in Rochester, MN. The driver will work a schedule from Tuesday to Saturday, beginning at 5:30 am and working approximately 8-hour shifts. The position offers a competitive starting pay of $34.50 per hour, with potential earnings up to $36.50 per hour depending on relevant experience, skills, and location factors. In addition to the base pay, drivers may earn overtime compensation and various incentives based on productivity measures such as cases delivered, mileage, and number of stops.

The US Foods Driver role is crucial to the company’s operations, ensuring timely and safe deliveries of food products to a broad customer base. This position requires 100% attendance in all parts of the training program, including classroom instruction, yard skills, and on-the-road driving, demonstrating a commitment to safety and learning. The driver will assist designated US Foods drivers in route completion and must successfully complete all licensing requirements by enrolling in a CDL school immediately, obtaining a CDL permit within the first 45 days, and securing a CDL Class A license within 90 days of training.

The work environment involves exposure to inclement weather conditions and requires physical endurance such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and manual dexterity. The candidate must be able to perform safely in all weather situations, including applying tire chains when necessary. The role involves regular interaction with internal teams such as trainers, transportation managers, fleet maintenance, administrative support, and other drivers, as well as external relationships with customers and the state Motor Vehicle Department (MVD).

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be able to use or learn to use all job equipment including GPS systems
  • Must be able to perform all job functions safely
  • Must be able to work scheduled or assigned times and required overtime
  • Must have knowledge or ability to learn material safety data sheet information
  • Must be able to perform coupling procedures for tractor/trailer
  • Must have excellent customer service skills
  • Must successfully complete DOT written examination for drivers
  • Must pass controlled substance abuse screening test
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions including applying tire chains
  • Must adhere to all safety practices and company policies
  • Must be able to pass DOT physical and obtain a two year DOT Medical Card upon conditional employment offer

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English related to job and safety regulations
  • Basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing
  • Ability to work with money collected from customers
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to safely perform job functions
  • Ability to use or learn to use GPS and related equipment
  • Ability to work scheduled times and required overtime
  • Knowledge of material safety data sheets
  • Ability to perform coupling procedures for tractor/trailer
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions including applying tire chains
  • Must pass DOT written test and controlled substance screening
  • Able to pass DOT physical and obtain two-year DOT Medical Card
  • No more than two convictions for traffic violations in past two years
  • No DUI convictions in past three years
  • No driver's license suspensions in past three years
  • No termination for safety violations or accidents
  • Minimum one year experience operating heavy motor vehicles or warehousing in foodservice preferred

Job Duties

  • Maintain 100% attendance in all training program elements including classroom and hands-on instruction
  • Receive satisfactory feedback from instructors and driver coaches during training
  • Assist designated US Foods drivers in completing routes and job tasks
  • Enroll in CDL school and obtain a CDL permit license within 45 days
  • Obtain a CDL Class A license within 90 days
  • Meet performance expectations during the 90-day probationary period
  • Attend all required company meetings
  • Adhere to safety practices and company policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager
