Job Description

This position is offered by a leading logistics and delivery company specializing in efficient distribution of goods across various routes. The company is committed to maintaining high standards in transportation and customer service. It operates a cross dock model, emphasizing timely and accurate delivery performance. The role available is that of a Route Delivery Driver, a critical frontline position responsible for the daily transportation of products to designated customers along specified routes. The company values safety, professionalism, and operational excellence in every delivery made.

The Route Delivery Driver’s primary responsibility is to operate a straight truck or similar vehicle to perform daily delivery routes with multiple customer stops. Drivers are expected to unload and load products using hand trucks, manually handle packages weighing from 1 to 75 pounds (sometimes up to 100 pounds), and arrange deliveries in accordance with specific route orders set by the Transportation Department Manager. This job goes beyond just driving, as drivers often assist with loading trucks, palletizing products, and sometimes managing unexpected tasks assigned by supervisors or managers. The position operates within a cross dock environment, which means drivers pick up loaded trucks from nightly deliveries at assigned docks and return empty trucks to designated lots, requiring timely coordination and efficiency.

Route delivery drivers must adhere strictly to safety guidelines, including daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of their vehicles following Department of Transportation regulations. They are also expected to maintain professional interactions with customers, verifying delivery receipts, handling discrepancies or complaints, and ensuring that routes are completed effectively. Given that the work environment includes all weather conditions and may involve maneuvering product down ramps, stairs, or docks, the role demands both physical stamina and sound judgment.

Educational requirements for this role include a high school diploma or GED, which supports the ability to follow instructions and communication standards. Experience expectations include at least one year of route delivery or relevant driving, ensuring the driver is familiar with operating straight trucks and understands delivery logistics. The driver must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to read and communicate clearly in English. Essential skills extend to demonstrating outstanding customer service, effective problem solving, and meeting or exceeding productivity targets such as timely deliveries and low error rates.

In summary, the Route Delivery Driver plays a crucial role in connecting the company’s supply chain to its customers. This job requires a mix of driving expertise, physical labor, customer relations, and adherence to safety protocols. The hiring establishment offers a dynamic and fast-paced environment where the route driver is vital for operational success and customer satisfaction. Candidates who succeed in this position will typically exhibit strong work ethic, adaptability, and a commitment to quality service, making this an attractive role for motivated individuals seeking growth in the transportation industry.
